Bohra Style Curry Chholay
Ingredients
• 1/2 kg chickpeas
• 1/8 tsp baking soda
• 2 tsp salt
• 11/2 tsp red chilli powder
• 1 tsp coriander powder
• 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
• 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
• 4-5 green chillies
• 6 cloves of garlic
• 1 tsp gram flour
• 2 tbsp tamarind pulp
• A few curry leaves
• 4 tbsp oil

Method
Soak chickpeas in water with baking soda for about five to six hours. Wash and boil them in fresh water till tender or until just one cup water is left. Grind garlic, green chillies, red chilli powder, coriander powder, turmeric and cumin seeds to a fine paste. Heat oil in a pan; add the grinded masala with a little water and cook till water dries. Add in boiled chickpeas with salt and curry leaves, and bring to boil. In a separate bowl, mix gram flour and tamarind pulp together, adding in a little water. Pour this on boiling chickpeas, give it a good stir and continue cooking till the mix gets thick. Shift in a dish and serve with masala aloo.
