Most guys think about their style when going to important occasions, but they don’t pay much attention to their gym attire. Remember this as a rule of thumb for gym styling – keep it simple but trendy, do not overcomplicate things. Here’s a gym style guide for you to look all geared up, neat and attractive even in your workout clothes.
A black round-necked T-shirt paired with black shorts is your ultimate gym wear, but you can always go for more fashionable options. Look for something that fits you well and doesn’t highlight all the sweat after a workout session. You want a T-shirt that is a perfect intersection of function and style. An old baggy T-shirt will get in the way and hinder your movement. Invest in performance tops. A performance tee will wick away sweat and help regulate body temperature, keeping you cooler and comfortable for longer. Go for a stretch fabric, as it will also allow free movement. Don’t wear anything that reveals more skin – spaghetti strap vests and deep V tees do not qualify as workout clothes. If you really want to flaunt your athletic body, go for tank tops. Generally, tank tops are meant to be loose fitting clothing but if you are not that bulky, you can wear fitted ones as well.
Gym calls for trainers that allow you to maximise your workouts. Invest in a decent pair of training shoes that help you train well and look good at the same time. Just like your gym bag, do not wear your gym shoes outside of the gym. Don’t go over the board with your trainers – find simple styles and classic colours. Black and white shoes go well with plain-coloured gym wear. Do not wear your sneakers to gym. Your choice of exercise should guide your choice of footwear. A modern runner is a perfect fit for cardio-based workout; on the other hand, weight lifting footwear doesn’t have to be so technically advanced. Don’t forget about the socks – Merino wool socks are perfect for year-round workout. At its lightest, it's as soft and cool as cotton, while it naturally absorbs moisture, resists odour, and shields your feet from blisters. Perfect.
Appropriate leg wear
You can’t wear you pyjamas to gym. Well fitting sweatpants are versatile and comfortable for any kind of exercise routine. Tailored pair of performance pants is good for both runways and weight room. Well fitting and tailored does not imply skin fit – invest in a slim fit track pants that are comfortable but not too loose or long. Another option is a pair of shorts. Your shorts should fall right above the knee or a pair of mid-thigh length exercise shorts will do just fine. Make sure your bottoms are not oversized or slim fit because that will restrict your movement. Skin fit shorts are only good for cycling, not for gym. Go for a lacrosse short cut to make your ordinary shorts look more appealing. Compression leggings are yet another option. These improve performance, provide insulation and support your muscles to help them function at their optimum efficiency. It also promises less soreness the next day. Wearing compression tights or leggings
alone is inappropriate, you should always layer a pair of shorts over the top.
Reliable progress monitors
If you are a fitness freak, buy a smart watch come fitness monitor to keep a track of your workout goals or you can simply get a fitness band. Go for a reliable, high-performing classic that is not too expensive but looks good on the hand. Monitors these days track how many calories you’ve burnt, your heart rate and keep tabs on other simple but important analytics. You can find monitors in many colours which will complement your other essentials.
If your gym doesn’t have shower facility, a fresh fragrance and a good deodorant will do it for you. We are not saying that you can do without the shower, but until you reach home, spray some fragrance on you to kill the smell.
You can’t go to gym without your phone and earphones. Avoid giant headphones and invest in a reliable pair of earbuds. You want something small and easy to stow, so it doesn’t hinder your movement.
Versatile gym bag
You don’t want to carry your gym essentials in a shopping bag, invest in a stylish bag and use it for gym only. The gym bag is all about functionality but that does not mean it can’t be presentable. Look for one that has compartments, so you can use it for everything you need while working out; from your earphones to your gym shoes. A duffle bag makes a great gym bag, as it is trendy and spacious. Choose a dark colour – black, navy blue and dark grey are your go-to colours. Toss a dryer sheet or silica gel packets in the bag to cut down on odours. Moreover, store your used and sweaty gym clothes in a plastic bag before putting them in the bag to keep them from spreading germs.
