A team from the Centre for Advanced Studies in Engineering (CASE) along with Russia grabbed the topmost position in one of the largest underwater robotics challenges in the world – Singapore Autonomous Underwater Vehicle Challenge (SAUVC), which was held in Singapore.
SAUVC is known for providing students from around the globe with an opportunity to learn regarding the design of robots that can mechanically navigate underwater and do tasks assigned. The event is annually held and hosted by IEEE Singapore chapter at the Singapore Polytechnic.
A Pakistani team for the first time participated in this exciting challenge. Around fourteen teams from eight countries which including China, India, USA, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore took part in this event. The Pakistani team did not just clinch the winning title along with Russia; in fact, it also bagged the Best Social Media Campaign Award. CASE’s team included four students Mehrosh Fareed, Usman Abid, Haider Iftikhar and Saad Malik, and it was supervised by three of their faculty members Adeel Muhammad, Waqas-ur-Rehman and Mansoor Shaukat from the CASE Robotics Group.
