Itcame as a shock to many when news of actor Meekal Zulfiqar’s divorce recently hit the social media. Meekal tied the knot with model Sara Bhatti in 2010 at what many called a fairytale wedding. Parents to two adorable kids, Meekal and Sara seemed to be in a loving relationship. What’s more, in February this year they even celebrated Sara’s birthday amidst much fanfare. However, there was trouble brewing at home which the two were trying to keep hushed up in an attempt to make things work. Meekal finally took to social media to share their mutual decision of parting ways. “Wanted to say this for a while. Finally found the courage to do so. Sad to announce, unfortunately, my marriage of six years has ended. After a long separation and despite efforts from both ends, things could not be resolved, which has resulted in divorce.” While a divorce is always a heartbreaking aspect of life, it is nonetheless a reality. We wish Meekal and Sara, who will be making her television debut soon, the best in life and in their future endeavours.
On a happier note, Ayesha Omar has attained dizzying heights of fame in the last one decade. She has come a long way since her early days when she made her debut with Ali Zafar in sitcom College Jeans. However, Dolly Ki Ayeye gi Baraat and Bulbulay gave her instant stardom, making her a household name. Modelling, singing, acting she has mastered it all to perfection. Having graduated on to movies, she was last seen in Karachi Say Lahore as the lead. Just when you thought she has done it all, she managed to surprise her fans again with her recent appearance in the music video of Turn Up the Music Mr DJ. Rendered by the talented Qurram aka Q, the song features dancing sensation Hasan Rizvi and the beautiful actress in an upbeat setting. It's a modern-local-pop number that you can dance to, to your heart's content. Ayesha Omar and Hasan Rizvi are seen as a lively couple in the song who have an argument. Qurram is a mutual friend who sings to bring them together. Perfectly relatable to the youth and their everyday life, the video brings a wave of nostalgia for those who are done with college life, and reminds them of the good old days with no care in the world.
Talking about his experience with the gorgeous Ayesha, Hasan Rizvi shares, "Ayesha worked really hard on this project. With her fractured shoulder, she had to put in twice the amount of effort and sometimes [had to] even rest to give it a break. On set she was a real sport about it however, it limited her movement on one side. Working with Ayesha and Qurram in Turn Up The Music Mr DJ was simply awesome.”
A new face on the horizon is that of actress Saboor Ali. She emerged one fine day and was instantly noticed by audiences. Although she had been making frequent appearances since quite some time now, Saboor was first noticed in Teri Chah Mein. These days she is the notorious maid-turned-wife of Faisal Qureshi in drama serial Waada. She came in as the help and managed to ensnare the man of the house with her manicured nails, striking outfits and made-up appearance – all far better than the wife, Shaista Lodhi. Faisal in his latest outburst tells his wife to leave the house!
Saboor Ali has played her character to perfection, but guess who this pert little lass is? She is none other than actress Sajal Ali’s sister. Saboor seems to have made a place for herself in this cut-throat industry within no time at all and seems destined for success. While we liked her immensely as the helpless girl in Teri Chah Mein, the audience hates her for her devious ways in Waada! Wouldn’t you call her a good actor?
Sawera Nadeem is one of those actors who believe in quality rather than quantity. The beauty of this performer’s appeal is that she is never a victim of over-exposure; in her case, it is quite the opposite. You keep on waiting for her next venture and it’s always a treat to watch when she next makes an appearance on television. This time she will be appearing in Noman Ijaz-starrer Daagh, a serial that will discuss midlife crisis – a phenomenon most men in our society, and even internationally, go through. Daagh sheds light on this phenomenon and will hopefully show women ways of tackling this issue if they feel their men are showing symptoms.
Talking about men and symptoms, I have an interesting list about Donald Trump to share. For me, it is difficult to think about Trump and not think about TV. After all, Trump made his bones as a celebrity on television before he became the most powerful man in the world. Since taking over as President of the United States, a lot has been said and written about him. One such thing is his fondness for television. Thanks to some media outlets, we all know that the American president watches Fox News more than anything else. We are also aware of the fact that while millions of Americans were protesting his immigration ban, he spent an entire evening watching Finding Dory. So what are Trump’s favourite TV shows? Though there are no official lists (Trump is yet to release one), the likely guesses (the list has been prepared on the basis of his comments and his frequent Twitter posts) include Fox & Friends which, it is widely believed, is Trump's favourite show. The morning show on Fox News pays back by repeatedly singing his praises.
Next on the list is The O'Reilly Factor, another Fox News show. Hannity, also on Fox News, emerges as another of Trump Favourites and not without reason. However, Morning Joe on MSNBC isn't exactly his favourite these days, but it used to be one back in the early days of his election campaigning when the hosts of the show talked about him in a positive manner. These days, Trump is bluntly criticised on the same show that repeatedly takes swipes at his administration and his policies. Trump responds to it with insults on Twitter which means that he's still watching it. There have also been reports that he watched Access Hollywood every weeknight when Billy Bush was still hosting it. NBC fired him in October last year after an audio leaked of Bush and Trump having a vulgar conversation about women while shooting for the programme. There's no official word that Trump watches Celebrity Apprentice – his own show - but he does express his love for it and its ratings.
