KARACHI DIARY
The Gullibility Of The Public by AYUB JAN SARHANDI
This city seems like in hand of politicians again as every political parties who are in opposition or in the government is using this city as their battle field as now the opposition using all its power to get some power while the government which is newly elected of the PPP and PML (N) is trying to keep the opposition away from their ranks. This not a new thing for the people of this city as they are always suffering from this kind of lawlessness and political crises. These politicians who are supposed to struggling for the supremacy of judiciary and supremacy of law and posing that they are struggling for the democracy in this country but all such politicians seems struggling for their own sake and for their own benefits as in my opinion no one is seen sincere in solving the problems or at least realizing the problems of the people. Now the PPP has a full control of this province but they are facing a strong opposition and the politicians who are keep to get some power in the power game seems like disturbing the whole city. The recent 9th April incident really shocking one as the people of this city who are just hoping that at least they will be able to get some relief which the PPP Government promised but the fact is that all such claims of the newly elected government is not that easy to fulfilled as we have seen in the past that the new Government always show big hopes to the people but never did anything to minimize the problems of the people specially of this city which is in the grip of every sort of problems. Sometime I always think that are we living in the metropolitan city of this country as the problems and suffering really make us feel like we are living in jungle and here we have juggle rules where the big fishes eating small one and the all problems just faced by the poor and salaried class of this city as well as of this province. The politicians are using this city always as their play ground not only the politicians but the terrorist, criminals and every type of mafia rather national or international based in this city to fulfill their agenda. The politicians who are the so called representatives never realise that how much people are suffering from every kind of problems in this country and especially in this province and this city. Karachiites is in head deep drawn in every sort of problems they elected the politicians with the hope that they will minimise their problems but these politicians never even think that for what they are elected they at least work for it. They do nothing just to fulfill their own political agenda which they have in their mind. And we have seen in these days what the politicians are doing every one seems just to get a chance and share in the power and by any mean get the ministries and other post no one seems interested to get together and try to at least solve the problems of the people and at least provide them a peaceful atmosphere in which they can try to get two times meals for their families. But unluckily we always seen that the politicians in the government or opposition they always seen fighting for their own rights they not have any concern with the problems and suffering of the people especially of this city. This is the fact that the poverty level has gone beyond the minus point as in this city only 5 percent are those who are belonging from the rich and high society while 95 percent of people are under poverty. Especially the salaried class is suffering most and it's hard for them to meet their daily needs for their family in their limited salaries.
Water, electricity, broken roads, traffic, garbage, .sewerage, now even atta crisis with all other sorts of problems is here in this city but rather to minimise these problems all the politicians are working just for their own politician gain and they make more and more problems for the people of this city. It's a fact that the suicide level in this country is grown more and specially in this city the physical condition of the people are worst as they are suffering not only financial problems but also they are suffering from law and order disturbances and no one feels safe in this city which makes them a patient of many diseases, depression is seen common among 90% of the people living in this city and due to financial burden and unemployment the suicide rate is going high and high.
But, who cares? The politicians are either in opposition or in the government and have other issues to fulfill their political agenda and for this they make the life of city like hell and people who are in hue and cry with their problems now suffering more and more and they are in fear and tension and that's the reason that the blood pressure and tension is rising in alarming level in this city. The unemployment is worst in this city and the youngsters who have degrees are seen begging from pillar to post to just get a smallest job but there are not able to get it as the jobs in city also distributed and filling on political ground and all those who don't have any affiliations with the political parties are either not even able to apply or they are totally refused to get any job as wherever they apply the jobs used to be already filled in advance and the advertisement of such jobs is publicized when vacancies have already been filled with politically affiliated persons. This unemployment is the worst and no one--either our rulers or the opposition--has any concern with it as they are enjoying lavish political lives and ruling on the people like kings and just they struggle how to be the ministers or the advisors they just want the minister to live like a king and enjoy every benefits of it. Now there is hope on the PPPP whose slogans that they are the party of poor and they will work for poor but still not any practical step is seen taken to get a real picture of the problems. They started crying that they get the problems from the ex government and it's not easy for them to solve it. The recent petrol rise and rise in every daily used item make the salaried class crying what to say about the poor. It's beyond their reach to get a one time full meal for their families in their limited salaries. Beside this unemployment is reached an alarming level also which promoting the crimes more and more in this city. The new Government need to take it as challenge first of all they need to minimize the fear and tension in this city and control the crime and provide a peaceful atmosphere and not leave anyone who create law and order situation in the city. The government needs to book any of those without considering to which party or section they belong; the rulers need to forget their political affiliation with anyone and just take strong measures against those who are creating the trouble and lawlessness in this city. The Police need to be reshuffled and those so-called agencies who claim they are here to protect people, need bound themselves: if there is any problem seen in the city they must be answerable for it. The PPPP and the coalition parties must take it on priority that they create jobs on merit and no political pressure may be accepted just to give jobs to the deserving people.
The price hike is a big challenge for the new Government they take it on priority and at once stop the rising prices of the essential item of daily use, provide atta, water and electricity to the people if not they also not have any right to live lavishly and enjoy their status. They can do when they feel that they provide basic need to the people of this country.
This city is badly disturbed since the day the PPPP Government took oath but no practical step is seen from them to control the situation and book the criminals and terrorists who are burning and killing the people in this city, instead of that the new government seen involved in the political bargaining rather to provide the peace in the city. The people of this city have all hopes on the PPPP now let's see how much they are sincere in providing relief to the people of this city as well as of this country from their problems. Have a look of this week column and so long till next week.

One of the Artist Barutcugil, started 1973, as a first year student at the Department of Textiles, School of Applied Industrial Arts, Barutcugil, under the guidance of Dr. Emin Baryn, he first encountered Ebru, for which he quickly developed a burning passion. He decided on career in Ebru and carried his interest to London, where he conducted his postgraduate studies. He applied various techniques to the art and this resulted in a unique line of Ebru, now known by his name as Barut Ebru. He has contributed to hundreds of events and exhibition on traditional art, given short-term courses and seminar in the USA, Canada, European nations, Egypt, Tunisia, Pakistan and India. Following this, she carried out her studies at the Atelier of Prof. Suheyl Unver; at the Medical school of Cerrahpasa. Illumination, known as tezhip in Turkish, is an old decorative art. The word tezhip means turning gold or covering with gold leaf in Arabic. Yet tezhip can be done with paint as well as with gold leaf. It was mostly employed in hand-written books and on the edges of calligraphic texts. The art of illumination has been practiced as widely in the West as it ha sin the East. In the Middle Ages in particular it was widely used to decorate Christian religious texts and prayer books. Gradually however, picture illustrations became more popular, and illumination became restricted to decorating the capital letters in main headings. Among the Turks, the history of illumination goes back to the Uyghurs. The Selujks then brought it to Anatolia, and the art saw its culmination in Ottoman times. The Ottomans adopted many of the features of the Herat School in their own work, and created new syntheses. In the 19th century, the Western influence that could be seen in almost all areas of art also began to make its presence felt in the art of illumination. The art of marbling on paper, or ebru in Turkish, is a traditional decorative form employing special methods. The word ebru comes from the Persian word ebrÕ, meaning cloud...
It was one of the interested exhibitions and the credit goes to Consul General of Turkey for arranging such a nice Exhibition in the city.
