WHAT’S YOUR QUERY?
Q: Hi! I am 21 years old and love food. When I was 15, I weighed approximately 74kgs but it never really bothered me as I was pampered and loved by everyone around me. But after I turned 17, I was constantly mocked by extended family members and college mates. A few friends, including the guy I really liked, also ridiculed me because of my excess weight. That was when I shed almost 17kgs in just two months by strictly controlling my diet. I somehow managed to maintain my weight for a long time. I joined a gym, went regularly for my yoga classes and was active in general. I got married when I was 19 and conceived a year later, after which my weight went up to 89kgs. Now, I am addicted to food and my eating habits have ruined my body. It is very difficult for me to stop binge eating. Being overweight frustrates me a lot and I keep regretting myself for what has happened. I really want to get in shape, as my husband is no more attracted towards me. Please tell me what to do. Zainab
A:
Hello Zianab! Of all the things you have mentioned, it appears that food is a representative of a lot of things in your mind. The first time you liked someone, you thought the guy would have reciprocated if you were slimmer or in any way like the girls he would otherwise like. Therefore, you started losing weight and exercising. But keep in mind, when you lose weight for others instead of yourself, it will never last. You are merely doing it to gain someone’s love and attention, but when that does not happen, you give up on yourself and are careless about your body. This is a very dangerous bend your mind takes, ultimately making the task impossible. You have focused more on appearing healthy rather than feeling healthy, thus, your weight loss remains unsuccessful. Even now, you must focus more on how losing weight will help you remain healthy instead of trying to appear attractive to your husband. Look for interesting incentives, instead of fixing your sight in the mirror.

WHAT’S YOUR QUERY?
Q: Hello! I am 26-years-old and a software engineer. Three years ago, I lost my father to a cardiac arrest and just four months ago I lost my brother in a road accident. The sudden death of two of my loved ones has left me in a state of shock, making it difficult for me to cope with the tragedies. I loved both, my father and brother a lot and I just cannot seem to get over the loss. I recently got married, and was really happy considering my husband is a great guy, but after a few days I again started feeling the absence of both, my father and brother, merely because they were not beside me at the most memorable day of my life. Everyday, a thought crosses my mind that I will gradually lose all my loved ones and all the negative and worst possible scenarios occupy my mind. Please tell me how to get rid of this trauma. Muzna
A:
Dear Muzna, it is certainly an irreversible loss and the pain too, is irreplaceable. This very reality cannot be changed and has to be accepted. All I can do is guide you a little about coping with the loss of a loved one. Firstly, think about all the care and love they had given you and that they made your life meaningful. Remember the way they encouraged you in life. Replay your worst fear at once everyday; you might feel anxious at first or maybe for a few days, but this technique will free your mind of all the negative thoughts you keep getting. Talk to your family members about this and spend as much time as you can with the rest of your family, it is as much difficult for them as it is for you. Engage yourself in different hobbies, as it will occupy your mind for a good period of time. It is a fact that everyone will die one day and never return. But this certainly does not mean that we, the living, stop celebrating our lives with the rest of our loved ones, while keeping those whom we lost always in our thoughts.
