Festivity IN THE AIR!
by SAHAR HARIS
The young, enthusiastic, stylish and effervescent designer Sobia Nazir created ripples in the fashion scene with her exclusive bridal couture collection showcased in Islamabad recently. Sobia's designer label is at the cutting edge of women's fashion and is one of the most sought after designer labels not only in Pakistan but also in the UK. Her show received an overwhelming response from the audience who got a chance to view the emerging trends in bridal fashion. Sobia Nazir experimented with her bridal colour palette and her unique melange of bold and bright colours is synonymous with festivity and jubilation. Straying away from reds and maroons, the regal shades of gold and copper add a dazzling sparkle to her creations. Turquoise, sea-green combined with mauve and candy pink look jazzy and appealing.
Sobia's bridal collection strays away from the traditional two shade colour combination and experiments with three or four shades in one ensemble. For instance, one of her inimitable mermaid style shararas is painted in this tone. The heavily embroidered veil is deep purple while the top is hot pink and the sharara is in an eye-catching shade of vermilion with intricate gold work and embellishments all over it. Bright orange and fruity shades of pink, red and maroon lend a youthful exuberance to the exhibit. Sobia's semi-bridal line was elaborate with a touch of eccentricity. Long, flowy shirts with leggy churidaars are all the rage this season. Sequins and gold motifs look desirable while the brooches and linear embroidery adds a fresh dimension to the world of fashion designing. Sobia Nazir's formal line focused on billowing drapery and rustic, earthy colours such as burnt sienna, amber, beige, dull gold and rust. Hues of silver and copper were added to enhance the drama and magical allure of the dresses. As models sashayed on the ramp wearing elegant ensembles, the audience was mesmerised by the designer's creativity and penchant for innovation. Royal colours such as gold and dark purple reigned supreme while chocolate brown and green made the show lively and festive. They were a myriad of motifs and chic designs on pure chiffon and silk. Stitched to perfection, the flowing dresses were every girl's dream come true. Soaked in the glory of gold and copper, petite models catwalked with languid grace and sophistication. The splendour of magenta was displayed in abundance with silhouettes of green, blue and lime. The fashion show was a riot of colours as every shade and hue on the colour palette paved its way on the ramp. While the ghararas and shararas depicted the old-world charm of yester yore, the semi-formal outfits were like a cheerful array of colours blossoming into pretty ensembles.
The show was choreographed by Rezz Aly Shah whereas the models were decked-up to perfection by Ather Shahzad. All in all, the colourful fashion show was a true reflection of the pomp and glamour at Pakistani weddings.
