China Holds Photography Exhibition
China and Pakistan enjoy enviable friendly and neighbourly relations which have withstood tests over the years. The warmth, sincerity and friendliness that exist between the Chinese and the Pakistanis are reflected, projected and highlighted on all occasions, whether these are on government or the masses level.
One such occasion was exhibition of photographs by a number of Chinese photographers appropriately titled “Showcases of China” held at the Alhamra Art Gallery under the auspices of the Pakistan National Council of Arts (PNCA) in collaboration with the Chinese Embassy in Islamabad and the Lahore Arts Council. The photographs, numbering about 180, showed the top leadership of the two countries including Chairman Mao Tse Tung, Premier Chou En-Lai, President General Muhammad Ayub Khan, Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, former National Assembly Speaker and now Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, Chinese leader Deng Xiaoping among others as well as the life style of Chinese living in various regions of the great friendly country.
All photographs on display carried the captions except one in which President and Chief of Army Staff General Pervez Musharraf’ was unveiling a plaque in March 2007 and Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz and others were cheering.
The photographic exhibition was organized to celebrate the two important developments—the 30th anniversary of reforms and opening up policy’s implementation in China and 57th anniversary, which was on May 21, of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Pakistan.
Provincial Information and Culture Secretary Oriya Maqbool Jan inaugurated the exhibition and then took a round with Chinese Embassy officials, number of Chinese studying and working in the provincial metropolis and other guests.
US Consulate Principal Officer, Bryan David Hunt arrived there on time with his security personnel and took a round ahead of the chief guest’s arrival behind scheduled time somehow.
According to the PNCA officials, the Chinese photographic exhibition was to continue for about ten days.

ART and Atrists
Art CentreNairang Gallery was the venue of a group exhibition of paintings in all mediums by a number of artists including senior artists, Ahmad Khan, Nayyer Ali Dada, Salima Hashmi, Iqbal Geoffrey, Mian Ijazul Hassan, Anwar Saeed, Jamal Shah, Shar Malik and Rahat Masood Navid.
Dr Mubashir Hasan as the chief guest inaugurated the exhibition titled “Eye To Eye” and then took a round along with Mrs Salima Hashmi, Nayyer Ali Dada and other art lovers.

Ejaz Galleries off M.M.Alam Road in GulbergÊhosted an exhibition of paintings by Fine Arts students of the Kinnaird College for Women.
Provincial Information and Culture Secretary Oriya Maqbool Jan, who was the chief guest, inaugurated the exhibition “Miniatures From Kinnaird”.
On display were a number of miniatures by young students Anna and Saba which prominent artist and art teacher Saeed Akhtar duly appreciated.
Their teacher Mizma Zulfiqar was also around and said that due efforts are being made on the Mughul and Persian style of miniature paintings in teaching and training to the students.

Jahangir Badar’s Book Launched
PPP Secretary General Jahangir Badar’s English book “The Evolution of Democracy” was launched at the function held in the auditorium of the Iqbal Complex.
PPP Co- Chairman and spouse of the late Benazir Bhutto, Asif Ali Zardari, was the chief guest at the function. Continuous chanting of slogans by the party activists and workers somewhat diverted the due attention. Slogans chanting forced South Asia Free Media Association (SAFMA) Secretary General Imtiaz Alam left the rostrum in protest without delivering his speech in protest against the Jiyalas unmanageable behaviour. However, Dr Mehdi Hasan was lucky to say what he wanted and then Asif Zardari spoke and left abruptly.

Benazir’s Birthday Celebrated
PPP activists and workers celebrated first birth anniversary of Chairperson Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto with much emotion. The anniversary, unfortunately, fell after her martyrdom in Rawalpindi on December 27 last year.
Rich tributes were paid to Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto at seminars and functions by the speakers drawn from all walks of life besides PPP Secretary General Jahangir Badar and other party leaders.
Responding to Asif Ali Zardari’s appeal, PPP activists, leaders and workers including substantial number of women also donated blood for saving someone’s life as the rich tribute to their departed leader Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto.

Lectures and Seminars
An informative and educative lecture regarding women’s healthcare was held at a local Club in Gulberg. Women healthcare specialist Dr Noreen Zafar delivered the lecture on “Endometriosis” (Problems during Childbearing Years).
Afterwards, she joined the guests at hi-tea and answered pertinent queries put by some to clear points in their minds.
Prominent psychiatrists have been delivering lectures on subjects pertaining to their respective fields to the Club members and their guests for some months now to enable them overcome their health care and psychological problems.

Celebrating Parents Day with Nawaz Shariff
A local School organized a big function to observe Parents Day.
PML (N) leader and former Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif was the chief guest on the occasion and in his speech highlighted the importance of education and good relations between the teachers and parents for their brightacademic future. Mrs Nazi Qureshi, former Federal Minister Khwaja Saad Rafique and Kamran Shafi besides the chief guest also spoke on the occasion.

Eat, Drink and Be Merry: Pakistan Cricket
Pakistan Cricket Board hosted a dinner reception at a local hotel to mark commencement of the latest edition of the Asia Cup Cricket Tournament.
A Dinner reception was attended by the participating India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, UAE,
Hong Kong and host Pakistan teams and officials as well as former PCB chiefs Lt General (Retd) Tauqeer Zia and Khalid Mahmud and former skipper Intikhab Alam among others.
