Saeen Mir Delegation
A delegation of Saeen Mir International Foundation from Indian Punjab was in the provincial metropolis on a goodwill visit. The delegation comprising prominent personalities from different walks of life attended various receptions besides visiting places of historical interest.
One such luncheon reception for the visiting Indian Punjab goodwill delegation was held by Provincial Minister Farooq Ghurki.
PM Visits Shrine
While in the provincial capital, Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani availed the opportunity to visit the shrine of popular saint Hazrat Mian Mir, placed a wreath and offered ‘Fateha’ along with a number of PPP leaders and addressed a press conference at the State Guest House. Senior

Delegation on a Visit
A four member delegation of All Pakistan Hurrieyet Conference (APHC) led by Mir Waiz Omar Farooq was also in the town as part of its visit to Pakistan.
The Kashmiris’ leaders among other activities visited the mazaar of great thinker and poet Allama Muhammed Iqbal, placed a wreath and offered ‘Fateha’ .
The APHC delegation also visited the Sharif Family Farm in Raiwind and held a meeting with PML (N) leader and former Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif. Provincial Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif was also present on the occasion.
Debate discusses Violence on Women
Violence against people with particular reference targeting womenfolk was deliberated and deplored at the two day international debate on “Impact of Global Violence On Mental Health; A Challenge for Mental Health Professionals” which was held at the Alhamra Art Centre under auspices of the Punjab University’s Centre for Clinical Psychology
It was pointed out by the speakers that violence against the fair sex of all ages has increased by about 20 per cent in just one year.
Participants and speakers of the international debate on violence included Mukhtaran Mai, former Punjab Governor Lt General (retd) Khalid Maqbool, Dr Riffat Zaman, Dr Malik Baadri from Malaysia, Dr Urusa Fahim from USA, Omar Aftab, Abdul Rauf, Professor Dr Zahid Javed, Justice (retd) Nasira Javaid Iqbal, Dr Riaz Bhatti, among others.
In a brief chat after the conference had concluded, Mukhtaran Mai said that she will marry in due course as she is very busy in her welfare activities.
Mukhtaran Mai said that she feels immense pleasure on seeing children seeking knowledge, education and training in educational institutions. She said with a genuine sense of pride that the school which she had set up in her village Jatoi near Muzaffargarh has since been upgraded to Matric level and about one thousand children are on rolls.
Court Gets Facelift
Lahore High Court has partially got a new look with the reconstruction of its western wing double storeyed building while retaining the historical old structure in the main building.
The newly- reconstructed western portion of the High Court was inaugurated by Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court Justice Sayed Zahid Hussain by unveiling the plaque.
LHC judges and officials joined the Chief Justice in offering “dua” afterwards.
Arif Lohar Enthralls
Punjab Arts Council organized a musical evening with popular folk singer and performer Arif Lohar at the Open Air Theatre in the Bagh-e-Jinnah.
Provincial Culture and Youth Affairs Minister Dr Tanveerul Islam was the chief guest on the occasion. Large number of people from different walks of life fully enjoyed and highly appreciated folk dancing and singing performance by Arif Lohar.
Arif Lohar said that he is always very happy to perform before a gathering of music lovers. It gives him satisfaction to entertain people with his God given art and make them happy at least for some time.
Just Married
Marriages of sons of two politically and religiously well-known personalities, Defence Minister Chaudhry Ahmad Mukhtar and scholar Dr Muhammed Tahirul Qadri, respectively took place in the provincial metropolis almost at the same time. Large number of people from different walks of life together under one roof irrespective to which political and religious thought they belonged were gathered.
Ch Faisal Mukhtar was married to Mehwish daughter of Irfan Qadir. To celebrate the big happy occasion, his father, Defence Minister, Chaudhry Ahmad Mukhtar hosted a colourful valima reception at a local hotel.
Besides large number of relatives and friends, elite of town turned up in pretty good numbers to bless the new couple, Mehwish and Faisal Mukhtar with their earnest wishes for a long, happy, married and blissful life.
Prominent among the guests were Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani and Provincial Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif.
Pakistan Awami Tehrik Chairman and religious scholar Dr Muhammed Tahirul Qadri hosted a lavish reception to celebrate the marriage of his son Mohyuddin Qadri. No details about the bride were immediately available for obvious reasons.
