Q: I am a 19-year-old girl. I have dandruff in my hair. My complexion is fair, but due to dandruff, my body colour differs from my face. I have fair and dark patches on my skin. Please help me attain a uniform complexion. Anon
A: A dandruff home remedy needs to be used for a prolonged period to ensure that the condition is successfully treated. Beets have been found useful in combating dandruff. Both tops and roots should be boiled in water and this water should be massaged into the scalp with the finger tips every night. White beet is better for this purpose. The best treatment for dry skin is to keep it hydrated as much as possible. Take a bath with lukewarm water and keep the skin moisturised. Don't leave your skin dry but a bit damp for the moisturizer to work its way in. The most effective moisturizers would be olive, almond or grape seed oil or clarified butter. A simple home-made face or body-pack made with 1 tsp milk powder, 1 tsp honey, 1 tsp lemon juice and 1/2 tsp almond oil applied on the face for 10-15 minutes helps to reduce the effect of tanning. Use it over affected areas regularly and you will get your required results.

Q: I am 28 years old. My problem is wrinkles on my forehead and under my eyes. Please suggest an anti- wrinkle cream or home-made remedy and give me some tips to cure these fine lines of aging. Anon
A: Wrinkles are delicate creases caused by thin, sagging skin. In order to decide on an appropriate treatment method for wrinkles, it is important to first understand what causes wrinkles on the face, hands, and other parts of the body. There are certain factors that can hasten the wrinkling process and once these have been determined, it is easier to slow down this process as well as treat existing wrinkles. These are age (not in your case), smoking, pollution, malnutrition, loss of vitamin E and over exposure to sunlight. Apply egg whites on the skin under your eyes. Egg whites contain several vitamins and will help to nourish as well as tighten your skin. This is an excellent method to reduce wrinkles naturally and so in addition to applying it under your eyes, you can apply it to your forehead and other areas of your skin that are prone to wrinkling. Odor-free castor oil can be applied on the affected areas.

A: Dry and damaged hair can lead to many other hair related problems like dandruff, hair loss, etc. Avocado is excellent for dry hair care and also very effective in the repair and restoration of damaged hair. Different types of oils are best for dry hair. These oils will provide the required nourishment and moisture to the dry and damaged hair, and will also promote healthy hair growth.
Q: I am 14 years old and have oily skin. My problem is that I have many small pimples on my face. Kindly suggest an effective remedy for this problem. Dua Ansari
A: Dear, oily skin needs just a few minutes of daily skin care regimen to be healthier, glowing and shiny. Make a sandalwood paste with rose water and apply on the scars. Keep it overnight and wash it with cold water the next day. If you find that your skin becomes dry in the morning, leave the paste only for a few hours on your face or you may try adding some milk while making paste. Keep in mind that at your age, pimples are common. So, do not worry. Just follow simple skin care routine and use the above remedy once or twice a week.

Q: I am 16 years old. At this age some of my hairs are turning white. I have consulted with many doctors but they don't satisfy me. Can you please provide me with any home remedy? Anon
A: The use of Indian gooseberry is the foremost among the home remedies found beneficial in the prevention and treatment of premature graying of hair. This is a valuable hair tonic for enriching hair growth and hair pigmentation. The fruit, cut into pieces, should be dried, preferably in shade. These pieces should be boiled in coconut oil till the solid matter becomes like charred dust. This darkish oil is very useful against premature graying. The water in which dried Indian gooseberry pieces have been soaked overnight is also nourishing for the hair. This water should be used for the last rinse while washing the hair. Massaging the scalp every night with a teaspoonful of Indian gooseberry juice, mixed with a teaspoon of almond oil and a few drops of lime juice, also proves beneficial in the prevention and treatment of premature graying of hair.
