MAG FILESInvestigators Turn To Final Vault At Treasure Temple

Investigators plan to pry open the final vault hidden deep under a centuries-old Indian Hindu temple as police guarded round the clock the shrine where billions of dollars worth of treasure has been discovered. Over the last week a seven-member team of investigators has broken into five of the six secret subterranean vaults piled high with jewels that have lain untouched for hundreds of years. Onlookers and devotees thronged the shrine in the bustling center of Thiruvananthapuram, the capital of India's southern Kerala state, as officials said treasure worth more than $20 billion had been found – more than India's education budget. Sacks filled with diamonds were piled next to tonnes of gold coins and jewelry, media reported, in the vaults of the 16th century Sree Padmanabhaswamy temple, the royal chapel of the former rulers of Travancore, now part of Kerala state. "The current market value of the articles found so far by the committee members would be roughly 900 billion rupees ($20.2 billion)," one temple official who was not authorized to speak to the media said. Investigators searched the vaults to draw up an inventory of the riches because of worry about security but they had no idea of the amount of treasure they would find.

Go Bike To The Future

MAG FILESIt may not be equipped with a laser cannon but Stars Wars fans could soon get behind the controls of a real hoverbike. Chris Malloy claims his flying machine, which is ridden like a bike but has horizontal propellers instead of wheels, will reach altitudes of up to 3,000m (10,000ft) and speeds of more than 270kph (170mph). But, so far, the 32-year-old-s creation has remained tethered just a few feet off the ground. 'I am still ground testing at the moment, only because I'm not 100 per cent sure what will happen so the straps are there to cover the unknown,' he said. 'I haven't had the pleasure of flying round the country-side yet. It is quite stable and doesn't want to tip over but, if something unplanned happened during testing, I wouldn't want to break the prototype.' The Australian inventor has spend his life savings and two-and-a-half years constructing the space-age bike in his Sydney garage using a custom-built frame and a BMW engine. The futuristic design, complete with parachutes in case of an emergency, bears a passing resemblance to the Speeder Bikes seen raring across alien planets in the Star Wars films or cartoon family The Jetsons' 2062 hovercar.

Spain Festival Twins Bullfights With Food Fights

MAG FILESSpain's world famous annual San Fermin festival may have bullfighting as its centerpiece but the carnival atmosphere also lures unorthodox fans given to food fights, singing and dressing up. The festival captivated Nobel Prize-winning novelist Ernest Hemingway when he first came to visit in 1923 and inspired him to write "The Sun Also Rises," the book which made a name for him and the northern town of Pamplona and drawn tourists here from around the world ever since. The traditional running of the bulls got under way this year without any of the gorings which usually mark the week-long celebrations. In the afternoon, local fan clubs known as "penas" packed the cheap seats on the sunny side of the bullring. Many will spend much of their time with their backs to the three bullfighters who will challenge six bulls in the course of an afternoon. They also fill the stadium with music so deafening many reputable bullfighters decline to come to Pamplona and fans in the more expensive shaded seats argue over the noise. "Here the bullfighter has two opponents, the bull and the racket," said Antonio de Miguel.

MAG FILESHow About A Drink With Your Iphone?
You can do a lot with an iPhone these days – text, take pictures, surf the net, and even make a phone call. And soon, thanks to two Australian entrepreneurs, you will be able use it to open a bottle by way of the "Opena," a hard plastic case that fits over the iPhone and is equipped with a slide-out bottle opener. "We're always out at friends' houses and so on, and in some cases you may not have your keys on you... So we thought, why don't we attach a bottle opener to an iPhone case? We always have our phones on us." Working from three basic rules – the case had to be slim, there had to be no chance of the opener scratching the iPhone, and the opener had to work without putting any pressure on the phone – the two developed a prototype.
