Smile! Here's a surprise!

HealthFrom baby teeth to braces, healthy teeth are all about what goes on inside your mouth… We did some research and here's what we found...
No matter what your age, you must take care of your mouth. Most adults tend to ignore their own teeth while fussing over the dental health of their children. Painful emergencies are the only time they visit the dentist!

TOOTH DECAY (CAVITIES)
Teeth are meant to last a lifetime. By taking good care of your teeth and gums, you protect them throughout your life. Tooth decay (cavities) can happen as long as you have natural teeth - not just in childhood. If not kept clean, bacteria tend to accumulate and a sticky film of tartar forms on your teeth - this leads to tooth decay and cavities.

GUM DISEASE
This too can lead to tooth decay and is called 'periodontal' or 'gingival disease'. The disease effects the bones that hold the teeth in place. If plaque stays on teeth too long, it forms a hard substance called tartar, which brushing can't remove. The longer plaque and tartar stay on your teeth, the more damage they cause. Your gums may become red and swollen, and bleed easily (gingivitis). This eventually pushes the gums away from teeth, forming pockets where bacteria and acid, collect. When infected (periodontitis), they ruin bones and gum, eventually resulting in loss of teeth.
