Dress up your
Bookshelf

BookshelfYour bookshelf is an asset in itself. And showcasing great literary works can enhance any décor. So, why not make it more attractive? Create a luminous backdrop for books and knick-knacks by glazing the back of an ordinary bookcase with a coppery shimmer. Clear off shelves and protect shelf edges and sides with painter’s tape, then roll on 1-3 coats of paint. Or you can paint the inside panels with the same colour as the surrounding wall or a contrasting colour. You also can use a mirrored tile or if you’re assembling a ready-made shelf, paint the back before you attach it.
Beautify your
Front door

Paint your front door a colour that’ll welcome both family and friends and make your house the beauty of the block: Caribbean blue, rich plum, cherry red or bright sunny yellow. For more inspiration, look to your backyard. A ripe tomato still on the vine, a bright yellow sunflower swaying in the breeze, Front Dooreven a blazing sunset, can offer inspiration for an eye catching colour scheme. For durability, use exterior paint in semi gloss finish - it’ll stand up to weather and wear and tear. Sand your door first (you don’t need to remove all the paint, just the first layer), then prime with a penetrating primer. Once the primer’s dry, sand the door again, then paint with the topcoat. There’s no advantage to oil paint. Yes, you read that right. Latex colours stay truer and glossier even longer than oil.
