Low cholesterol linked with early death
Research holds that low cholesterol doubles the chances of early death in the elderly. A cholesterol value less than 189 doubles the chances of early death. Physicians were informed that severely low levels of cholesterol were a clear warning against serious underlying diseases that might effect health standards. A study done on 4,520 males and females of ages from 60s to 80s showed that low levels of cholesterol caused higher chances of death. According to the study authors, it is the best predictor of mortality in non-demented elders and might be a sign of subclinical disease or frailty. I hope this research can be highlighted and truth should come out that cholesterol is not at all bad. But that could take some time due to so much investment in big pharmaceuticals. However, it saddened me that many people might lose their lives by striving to reduce their cholesterol.

Deficiency of a vitamin is associated with plaque build-up in carotid arteries and stroke
According to a research, published in the Canadian Medical Association Journal, deficiency of Vitamin B12 increased the chances of a stroke and fatal heart attack. The researchers focused on the relationship between carotid artery plaque, homocysteine and vitamin B12. The study proved that a higher level of B12 vitamin was linked with lower levels of homocysteine in the blood that causes decrease in plaguing in the carotid arteries. On the other hand, higher levels of homocysteine in the blood showed a heavy risk of developing a stroke or a heart disease.

Method of study
This study was conducted over 421 people with an average age of 66 years. With the help of an ultra-sound their degree of plaque in the carotid arteries, homocysteine and vitamin B12 were examined. About 17% of patients that make 73 in numbers had deficiency of B12 vitamin. These very people also had elevated homocysteine levels, and the carotid plaque was extremely high in them.

Conclusion
Low levels of B12 were the reason behind elevated homocysteine and increased carotid plaque.
Ask your physician to order a methylmalonic acid (MMA) test, and a homocysteine test. They are the best tests for finding B12 status, not the serum B-12 blood test.

The link between pesticide toxicity & Parkinson’s disease
Pesticides are associated with neurodegenerative disease such as Parkinson’s. Chemicals contain toxins that can increase the risk of Parkinson with a whopping six times. The seven pesticides tested include: one organochlorine (dieldrin), two dicarboxymides ( folpet, captan), two imidazoles (benomyl, triflumizole), and dithiocarbamates (e.g. ziram, maneb). This study was carried at Los Angeles, University of California. The study concluded that seven toxic pesticides inhibit the ALDH – aldehyde dehydrogenase enzyme, which effect dopamine cells associated with Parkinson’s development. According to the medical research decrease in dopamine causes abnormal brain’s activity that leads to the disease. The results also showed that the pesticides cause inhibition of the ALDH enzymes at lower levels than accepted by the safety standards. Good news is benomyl, one pesticide has been banned but many others are still under use. Pesticides are also found in pest control agents used in homes and offices.
As a functional medicine expert, I recommend all the Parkinson’s patients to ask their physician to check their Toxic Effect Core test.
