Quote Of The Week
“You have enemies? Good. That means you've stood up for something, sometime in your life.”
– Winston Churchill

Early marriages
Despite a worldwide decline in early marriages, the practice remains a huge issue in our country. The findings of a report revealed that about 31 per cent of weddings fall under the category of early marriages in Pakistan. While boys are occasionally subjected to early marriage, girls are disproportionately affected and form a vast majority of this number. Underage marriage is not only judicial injustice but also a health concern for young girls. Moreover, girls should be given basic education before being married so that they are able to rely upon themselves in any unfavourable situation. Also, the government must ensure implementation of underage marriage law.

Education – a treat for some
Good quality education has become a luxury for many people. There are a majority of brilliant students who have the potential to achieve a lot in life but are often compelled to study in below-average institutions due to financial limitations and social differences. One reason for a non-uniform education system is that the private education sector has become a profit-making venture. In today’s world where education is a basic necessity to cope with the fast pace of the society, a huge chunk of the population in Pakistan is still deprived of it.

Street crimes in Karachi
Muggings and car theft have become a routine in Karachi. Robbers do not even fear looting in broad daylight, as they are confident that they will not be apprehended by law enforcing personnel. Almost every Karachiite has been mugged once or probably knows someone who has suffered the ordeal. While the Sindh police has been able to curb this menace to a certain extent, the government and police need to clamp down on illegal weapon supplies and catch and arrest large criminal gangs for a permanent solution.

Why only Sindhi?
In Pakistan, like other countries, people migrate from one city to another. Such intra-state migrations take place mostly from impoverished regions to those which are socially and economically more developed. It is because of these migrations that Karachi holds the status of being a cosmopolitan city of Pakistan. But the language difference at times becomes a communication barrier for the citizens. The government should encourage the inclusion of regional languages other than Sindhi in the school curriculum to promote and preserve the country’s rich and diverse cultural identities.

Good job MAG!
It is heartening to see MAG publish such good interviews for its readers. I am in love with your covers and the recently concluded fiction, Well-Suited was a great read. It is good to see MAG give space to aspiring fiction writers, who otherwise do not have a platform to get their works published. Moreover, the quality of stories, especially their local setting is very amusing for the readers as it makes them more interesting to read. Please continue with such good quality fiction!
