Arab Fashion Week (AFW) has stolen the limelight with its chic, trendy and sophisticated looks. Held in the cosmopolitan capital, Dubai, the five-day event attracted designers from all over the world, giving them a platform to exhibit their creations. A blend of Arabic and Western styles were showcased on the ramp featuring pleated skirts, blouses, gowns, and denim clothing to highlight a few hit pieces. This season’s AFW introduced the ready couture concept and was opened by an Emirati designer, Lamya Abedin’s elegant and stylish collection. The fashion affair was filled with outfits inspired by American culture and Arab folkways, creating a fusion of modern and modest clothing. This fashion extravaganza aimed to make UAE the fifth fashion capital in the world, alongside New York, London, Paris and Milan. With a goal of reflecting the creative, artistic and innovative side of the Arab world, this week of glitz and glamour garnered a diverse audience. The attendees were exuding bold style statements with their mini-dresses, gowns, abayas and niqab. From Italian designer’s Giadi Curti’s floral prints to Palestinian designer Jamal Taslaq’s traditional gowns, the Jeans Couture of Saudi Arabian mother-daughter duo, Suzan Farhoud and Leen al-Shieshakly to the unisex collection of Canadian-Jordanian Rad Hourani, couturiers from all over the world exhibited fresh, colourful and trendsetting ensembles during this shimmery fiesta.
