GIFT OF THE LOOM
by ALIZEH

Exclusivity meets tradition in Khaadi Khaas pret – a ready-to-wear formal line which embodies style, elegance and individuality. The collection showcased by Khaadi Khaas at the PFDC Sunsilk fashion week was blessed with fresh and unique summer colours. All designs were elegant and luxurious. The fashion show featured a mix of captivating designs and flamboyant colours. Traditional Pakistani outfits like long frocks, long shirts, lehngas, kaliyan dresses by fashion designer Shamoon Sultan of Khaadi Khaas are really enticing and endow a colourful summery look. Seeing everyone's taste for traditional hand-woven fabric, the gifted fashion designer started using the handloom to weave their creative skills in vibrant colours, attractive designs and fashion styles. Like other Pakistani fashion designers, he also faced problems in the beginning, but made it through and managed to make Khaadi Khaas evolve into a popular brand in Pakistan. The designs introduced at the PFDC Sunsilk Fashion week were ethnic and traditional, eccentric and funky, a mix and match of the East and West. dastarkhwan designs inspired by Afghan textile were also played up in bold and bright colours and hues. Block prints in interesting colour combinations and paisley designs were very much in vogue. The designer used an abundance of bold and bright shades and hues. Pastels and whites took a back bench as models sashayed in vibrant hues of strawberry red, bottle-green, royal blue and vermilion. The dresses were designed in a very funky and eccentric fashion; moreover the bizarre designing was reminiscent of dresses worn by tribal women. As the petite models sauntered on the ramp, they exuded an air of elegance and inimitable grace. As the ramp was set ablaze with the glowing hues of the rainbow, the audience gasped with awe and fascination, before breaking into a thunderous applause. The paisley designs seemed to be woven on the fabric and the flawless stitching complimented the cutting-edge designs. Garnering a lot of attention from the spectators was a dress that was stitched like a western frock, complete with sling straps and a funky belt. This frock can either be worn with tights or with a churidaar pyjama. Ponchos and halter necks are very much "IN" this season and belts slung around the waist look chic and jazzy. The sartorial charm of the baggy dhaka pyjama cannot be surpassed. Hats off to the brain behind Khaadi Khaas who always manages to become show-stoppers at fashion extravaganzas with their unique design philosophy and generous usage of abstract designs, unconventional colours and abundant embellishments like dainty tussles, beads and buttons to complete their signature look.
