Millions of hand-planted tulips, hyacinths, and other spring annuals burst into bloom at Lisse's world-famous Keukenhof from mid-April until the first week in May. Known as the 'garden of Europe,' the 79-acre park is only open March 20 to May 17, which is typically a prime time to see the landscape blanketed in a quilt-like rainbow of colours.

Tofino, British Columbia
Tofino, British Columbia
A remote hamlet on Vancouver Island's west coast, the waters of Clayoquot Sound off Tofino, are spring feeding grounds for gray and humpback whales and the occasional orca. Up to 20,000 gray whales pass through these waters each year on their trek north from Mexico's Baja Peninsula to Alaska's Bering Strait. You can sign up for whale-watching trips, bear-and bird-watching tours and excursions to natural hot springs with whale sightings along the way.

Reykjavik, Iceland

Spring still looks like winter in Iceland. However, in March, the days and nights start to balance out again, so there are more hours of sunlight for exploring the natural attractions. Taking a dip in the Blue Lagoon, or visiting the stunning black sand beaches near the southern coast must be on your list.
