BEST OF
BOTH WORLDS

By SUMEHA KHALID

“I know times are difficult and there’s a doom and gloom feeling surrounding us but we cannot and should not let it get us down. Let’s stand up and say no! Let’s not let it break our spirits. Let’s celebrate,” said Rehana Saigol. And it was truly a celebration, Jashn, aptly named and socialites and friends of Rehana Saigol arrived at the venue in full force to celebrate life.
Something that needs to be mentioned is the punctuality on the part of the organisers that was nothing short of impressive. Scheduled to start at 8:00 pm, the show was on the road just fifteen minutes later, which is unheard of in the fashion world. So for all those late arrivals, they were in for a shock as “one of my dearest clients came well after 10:30 pm when everything had been wrapped up and people had long gone home,” reveals Saigol, the force behind the show.
Within no time at all, it was houseful signifying it was time to get the show going. The designers of the evening were Satya Paul, Shobhaa De, Chand Saigol, Deepak Perwani and Rehana Saigol herself.
Previously, the lady had been lending her creativity to her jewellery line, Private Collection, also featured in the show. However, designing is still new to her. “I started designing last year and have loved every minute of it,” reveals she. Now you have an option of couture bridals at an affordable price for that is also the hallmark of Saigol.
About the show, “I am on a real high and feel the evening was absolutely fabulous and would not have been possible without the magician Tariq Amin, Barry and Deepak Perwani, besides some other people,” says the overwhelmed Saigol. Fareshteh Aslam is one of those special people who Ms. Saigol particularly mentioned in her heartfelt concluding speech, without whose help and coordination the show would not have been possible.
As for Tariq, he sure did a good job of giving each designer a distinctive accessorised look which made them all stand apart while Deepak’s choreography was also noteworthy.
It was a feel-good show and left you in good spirits despite a glitch or two, like the model who nearly toppled from the ramp… but what’s a show without a glitch? Even international fashion weeks have their fair share of mishaps, so that’s no big deal really.
The show area, 76 Clifton, was jam-packed with quite a few prominent glitterati adorning the front row - Sadaf Malaterre, Imran Kureishi, Bunto Kazmi, Rizwan Beyg, Naveen Naqvi, Tapu Javeri (who took care of the music) to name some - prominent buyers apart from designer friends.
“I’m so glad my friends could make it as it meant a lot to me and my husband. And I would like to request everyone to move on with life and to continue celebrating life and not let the bad things get us down,” concludes the lady and we cannot help but agree.
