Trends we are happy to part with

Issue Date 31 Dec - 06 Jan, 2016 at 2:00 PM

1. Tulip shalwars
It might have been the hottest trend for some time now, but it has definitely over-stayed its welcome. We have seen so much of these around us that they need to take a break if not disappear for a while.

2. Ear cuffs
As fun as they were to wear when they first hit the market, excessive use of anything can be bad, or at least boring in this case. Until we are cured of this hang over, we’d like to try out other fun accessories.

3. Chokers
This surprises us more than it would surprise you, but this fad came and went quick! Every celebrity spent the last few weeks sorting this accessory, but the problem is, they didn’t care much about re-inventing and experimenting with chokers. It was the same black, thin neckpiece everywhere. This in turn inspired a robotic replication among their fans. Either get creative, or let it go.

4. Monochrome tights
How many times have you walked across a street and seen almost everyone wearing the same thing? Too often, we suppose, for our own good. They are a comfortable and convenient option, we’ll admit, but if there is one wardrobe staple that you should be getting rid of at the start of new years, it is indeed tights, especially when you have other good options.

5. Jumpsuits
This suit has been done with! It cannot be emphasised enough – we have seen way too much of jumpsuits on celebrities in the last two years. Honestly, we don’t know what else you could do with this style that we haven’t seen before.

6. Off-shoulder shirts
This, unfortunately, is one of the trends that have started getting on our nerves only because they are everywhere. The only good thing that has come out of it is that off-shoulder tops are back, but unless you are attending a themed party that requires you to sport bygone trends, we’d suggest keeping this shirt tucked away somewhere.

7. Capes
Too many actresses and high society wedding invitees have relied on capes and cape-lets. Remember, we can only make way for new trends if you let go of the existing ones. Granted that capes are fantastic separates, we don’t particularly mind bidding them adieus for the time being.

8. Fringes
We get that nothing speaks vintage like fringes, but come fall and winter, and we are bombarded with fringe cut in everything from shirts to shoes and bags. Are we complaining? Not really. But would we like to break the pattern? Yes, please!

9. Statement jackets
We admit that it was cool when a few did it, but soon enough the jacket was everywhere. Then in a bid to do something different, but not quite succeeding, the print moved a little further up to caps. Now that you have run out of new places to print your name in Urdu, or so we are hoping, can we please move on?
