Age is all a matter of perspective. You can be 50-years-old or 50 years-young! Love yourself, feel cheerful at heart and that happiness will keep the romance alive, and the wrinkles at bay.
1 Stop feeling guilty about spending time and money on your beauty regimen. You owe it to yourself, looking good will make you feel good.
2 Standing a few moments before the looking glass doesn’t mean that you’re vain. It just shows that you care about yourself!
3 Remember, people will have confidence in you, only if you respect yourself. Being well-groomed sends out the signal that you like being treated well.
4 Exercise to lose those extra kilos. Workouts will get both your body and mind in shape.
5 Colours always add spice to life. So indulge in some make-up and try wearing bright colours to keep your spirits high.
6 Follow the basic skincare regimen of cleaning the face twice, using a day cream with SPF and a night cream with cell renewal, or skin repair formula.
7 Don’t overwork but don’t stop working either, even if you’ve crossed 65! Work gives you confidence and that always radiates on your face.
8 Go for a vacation. Change of environment is always a mood booster, and a holiday with your spouse also works as a binding session.
9 Reach out to people. Let go of past grievances and forge new relationships. Simply saying “I forgive” can take years away from your appearance!
10 Accept yourself as you are. If you’re at peace with yourself, everything else will fall in place.
BRUSH OFF
YOUR AGE
With age, most women adopt either of the two attitudes towards make-up - I’m too old to use make-up’ or I’m ageing so I need to use more make-up’. Unfortunately, both approaches are wrong. Strike the right balance with your make-up by adopting the mantra “less is more.” In other words, use make-up but subtly.
1 Cakey foundation accentuates lines. Use a primer before applying the base to fill out laughter lines, forehead wrinkles and crow’s feet.
2 Apply a thin base - use a liquid foundation or opt for tinted moisturisers. They give the skin a glowing and natural look.
3 If you need to powder, powder it with a light touch as too much of it can make a person look older.
4 Try to keep fuller eyebrows. Very thin brows give an aged look.
5 Choose muted tones for colour cosmetics - peaches, light browns and bronze are safe shades.
6 Opt for matte eye shadows as the shimmer variety reflects the light, illuminating imperfections. Dark eyeliner creates a hard look and emphasises the fine line around the eyes. Try charcoal greys and browns.
7 Dark lipsticks are great for women with fuller lips, but as we age, lighter lipsticks are better. Avoid dark browns and deep maroons; instead, try pinkish or peachy browns. Use hydrated creamy lipsticks and always use a lip liner.
