Mahira Khan sheds light on the real meaning of ‘Mera Jism Meri Marzi’

Speaking truth

Around the world, the achievements of women are being celebrated on International Women’s Day, which began back in 1911. But the day also highlights the work that remains to be done in order to achieve gender parity. For that, every year women and men around the globe unite to protest against the inequality faced by women. But with the growing number of supporters, the number of resisters has also increased. Last year, a slogan ‘Mera Jism Meri Marzi’ was made quite the hype on IWD by certain resisters. They openly bashed women for being indecent and immoral for raising such slogans. To clarify the misconception behind this phrase, in an interview with Mira Sethi, superstar Mahira Khan revealed the true meaning behind it. She said, “When I say ‘Mera Jism Meri Marzi’, I don’t mean I want to strip my clothes off and run around naked! I mean to say that I am a human and this is my body, so it is up to me whether I allow you to stare at it or touch it, or not. It means that I can report you if you don’t comply. It means that I can take an action against you if you harass me because you have no right over my body.”
