PEMRA issues notice against channel airing ‘Dil Na Umeed Toh Nahi’ for being “highly objectionable and indecent”

Censored!

TV shows get banned (or almost get banned) for a variety of reasons, most oftentimes related to the social and political climates of the day. Sometimes episodes never make it to the air or are subsequently kept from airing, and other times episodes are banned following a life-altering news event, only to air later after people have calmed down about the topic. Yet another drama that has fallen victim to PEMRA is the Yumna Zaidi and Wahaj Ali starrer Dil Na Umeed Toh Nahi, a drama that highlights the issue of human trafficking. PEMRA recently issued a notice against TV One, the channel airing the drama. The notice read as, “script/ dialogues and gestures being shown are highly objectionable and indecent. In this regard, episodes number two, three and six are worth mentioning that contain indecent, objectionable scenes, abusive language and indecent gestures which our against our cultural norms and commonly accepted standards of decency”. The notice also states that the “storyline/ plot of the said drama is highly disturbing and not depicting the true picture of Pakistani society.”
