1982: All-over pink

In the early '80s, there was no such thing as too much blush. Even right now, pink makeup looks are having a major moment. The colour adds a hint of sweetness to the face while still feeling fresh. 1984: Full brows

1986: Colourblocking

Sometime around the turn of the 20th century, stark lines and geometric shapes in bold, high-contrast colours, what we now know colloquially as colour-blocking, was the hottest makeup trend. All these decades later, and you'll still find colour-blocking every-where. The style can be seen in the work of some of the beauty industry's most talented makeup artists, too.

1988: Blue eyeliner

Coloured eyeliner, and blue eyeliner in particular, is one of the hottest trends when it comes to summer eye makeup. There’s just something about a popping hue that instantly brings the fun, carefree vibes of a sunny summer day to any makeup look. This is why this vibrant hue was the talk of the town by in 1988.

1991: Rosy lips

Hot pink was a hot colour back in the 90’s. This colour is back with a bang and is hotter than ever. So, forget a bold red lip. This 2021 makeup trend is all about making a statement with bright-pink lipstick, like Rosie Huntington does here. Not sure what shade of pink to try? Opt for a hot pink, it legit looks good on everyone. And if you want your pink to have serious staying power, go for a matte lipstick instead of a creamy one.

1995: White eyeshadow

This makeup trend had a moment in the 1990’s. Bright eyeshadow applied to the whole eyelid was popular during the decade. Although you may have never pictured the trend returning, but makeup artists and celebrities have been rocking this look on the red carpet. However, there's no telling how long white eyeshadow will stick around, there's no time like the present to give it another go.

1997: Metallic shadow

This was the year to pack on a shimmery shadow from lash line to brow bone. Lucy Hale and many other celebrities brought back this trend. 1993: Exposed lip liner

Picture it: Your hair is crimped, your brows are plucked into submission, your foundation is at least one shade too light and matte to the point of powdery, and your lips. Oh, your lips. Brick-brown lipstick, frosted purple lipgloss, or ultra-dark lip liner are hitting hard. Janet Jackson stuck to the '93 rule of thumb: Your lip liner should be three to four shades darker than your lip colour. And now, our favourite A-listers like Gigi Hadid are reviving this memorable trend.
