A hungry black bear entered the Connecticut bakery's garage, startled a few workers, helped itself to 60 cupcakes, and then slowly made its way out. When the bear arrived, staff members at Taste by Spellbound in the town of Avon were packing cakes into a van for delivery. According to the state environmental office, there are between 1,000 and 1,200 black bears residing in Connecticut, and 158 of the state's 169 towns and localities reported seeing one last year. Owner of the bakery Miriam Stephens said in an Instagram post that she overheard worker Maureen Williams "screaming bloody murder" and shouting that a bear was in the garage. Williams informed the TV station WTNH that despite her best efforts to frighten the bear away, it three times withdrew before returning. Williams claimed that as the bear charged at her, she retreated from the garage and fled.
