Motorola’s Moto G9 Power is coming up with a giant 6,000 mAh battery

Tech News

Motorola has announced the Moto G9 Power, a budget handset with one standout feature: a huge 6,000 mAh battery that Motorola claims will deliver up to 60 hours of battery life. It’s not the biggest battery we’ve seen in a device of this caliber (Samsung’s Galaxy M51 has a 7,000 mAh battery) but it’s still certifiably chunky. The Moto G9 Power will cost €200 in Europe. It’ll also be coming to “select countries” in Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East in the weeks to come. Other specs for the device include a 64-megapixel triple camera array on the rear, 16-megapixel lens on the front, 6.8-inch HD+ LCD screen, 128GB of internal storage, 4GB of RAM, and a Snapdragon 662 chipset. There’s a fingerprint sensor on the back, hidden under the Motorola “batwing” logo, and a dedicated button on the side for Google Assistant. Motorola also says the device has a “water-repellent design” that protects against accidental spills and splashes, but that won’t hold up to submersion in water. It’s available in two colours, Electric Violet and Metallic Sage, and supports up to 20W charging speeds. The G9 Power is the same general package as its predecessor, the G8 Power, but with better features.

“The new M1 Mac chip delivers better speed and battery life,” says Apple

The eight-core chip is "by far the highest performance" processor the company has ever created, Apple says. Apple's next-generation Macs will use a new chip called the M1, a big brother to the A14 chips in its iPhone 12 that will bring new power and battery life to its personal computers. The same M1 chip now powers new MacBook Air, MacBook Pro and Mac Mini models. The company's goal with the chip is to achieve industry leading performance and features while relentlessly focusing on performance efficiency. The new Macs will be joined by higher-end models in the next two years as Apple gradually ejects Intel from its personal computers. In the Apple M1-based MacBook Air, the processor helps provide battery life that's good for "up to" 15 hours of web browsing and 18 hours of video. Processor speed is three and a half times faster than that of the previous model, while the graphics are five times faster. The new 13-inch MacBook Pro is up to three times faster than the best-selling Intel machine, Apple said. The M1 has four high-performance cores for heavy-duty work, compared with two on the iPhone 12, and four high-efficiency cores for doing low-priority tasks.

Lenovo’s Smart Clock Essential is a smarter bedside clock

There is no shortage of devices that you can stick on your bedside table to use as a voice-controlled alarm clock. Lenovo’s latest entrant in this space is a $49.95 Smart Clock Essential. It’s a voice-controlled, Google Assistant smart speaker with a simple, black-and-white segmented LED display. It displays the current time, weather conditions, day, and your currently set alarms. The display will automatically adjust its brightness depending on the light levels of the room. It’s effectively what you’d get if you combined a modern smart speaker with an old-school LED clock radio. That combination of ideas carries over into the Smart Clock Essential’s looks. From the front, the white numbers on black background make it look like a typical, basic alarm clock. On top of the wedge-shaped device are four buttons for managing alarms. Around back is a USB-A port that you can use to charge a phone or smart watch, as well as a switch to stop the microphones from listening. The Smart Clock Essential is very functional and simple. It provides more utility and alarm clock features than a screen-less Nest Mini or Echo Dot but doesn’t overwhelm you with the functions of a full smart display.
