Tall, dark and handsome, Bilal Ashraf has taken Lollywood by storm, thanks to his hunky looks and awe-inspiring acting skills. Having started his career as a visual effects director, Bilal made quite a breakthrough entry in the world of acting with his brief appearance in the 2014 acclaimed thriller O21. Ashraf then starred as an army officer in another acclaimed war drama, Yalghaar in 2017. Then he starred as the male lead in Janaan and his most recent film Superstar has garnered a lot of praise. The heartthrob joins MAG for a quick and fun rapid fire. Here are 60 seconds from his life. Excerpts:

What gave you your first break?

When I was working as a visual effects director with my late sister Sadia Ashraf on Haroon’s music video Ishq Nasha, it was the first time I appeared in front of the camera. Even though it was a small role but things moved forward for me from there.

Most memorable moment of your career?

When I represented Pakistani cinema at BBC Global and was called for an interview there.

One magical power you wish you had?

I wish I had the power of mind control like Professor X from X-Men.

What kind of music do you like?

I listen to all kinds of music, anything that sounds good to my ears. I especially like 80s’ music, such as Vital Signs, Junoon, and other old songs.

What’s your idea of beauty?

Beauty is all about having a beautiful personality.

Would you call yourself an extrovert or introvert?

Both. I can be an introvert or extrovert depending on the situation, place and time. Usually, I’m very friendly, open and easy to get along with.

Who do you idealise in terms of your work?

I don’t idealise any actor but I idealise my dad, for he is my inspiration.

What is your dream project?

To work in a prestigious Hollywood production or play a Bond villain.

Most vivid childhood memory?

Unfortunately, it’s a sad one, when I had typhoid. I just cannot forget those eight to nine months because it was a near death experience.

If you were to give an advice to your 16-year-old self, what would it be?

Don’t waste time, follow your dreams and believe in yourself.
