As protestors come out on the streets to condemn the recent death of George Floyd in the USA, the South-Asian community living abroad also decided to speak up on this matter through various platforms. Recently, Indian American comedian, Hasan Minhaj, took to his social media and through a video message, spoke up not just against the systemic brutality that killed Floyd but also against the racism and discrimination that exists within the desi communities. Calling out the hypocrisy of the Asians who have been speaking up about the matter, Hasan said, "You know what we call black people? We call them kaala, which means black but not in a good way. If someone is dark-skinned in your family, we clown them. We call them kallu... Our Bollywood film stars do skin whitening commercials so we don't look black." "It is bad to be black in desi culture, even though we all wish we were black... That is the great hypocrisy," he continued.
