BREAKING SILENCE

Ever since the #MeToo movement came to light, many celebrities have gone public with their own experiences. Actor and activist Rose McGowan became one of the most prominent figures of the #MeToo movement. She is one of several women to accuse Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein of rape. Recently, in an Instagram Live session with McGowan, Ayesha Omar also opened up about her experience of sexual assault. “Two years ago, I finally allowed myself to acknowledge and talk about my own sexual harassment story by a powerful monster, twice my age. I was this young 23-year-old, fresh out of college, and this started happening. And it went on for years,” Ayesha shared. “I put in a box, and I said okay, this is happening in my life, I have to deal with it. I didn’t wanna share it with anybody. I let it stay there for 15 years,” she continued. Omar also said that she hasn’t revealed the name of her abuser but she will talk about it someday. “I will talk about it someday, but not today. I still haven’t named my monster but I’ve started talking about it,” she shared.
