Catwalk Cares Season 2 kicks off without an audience

THE FASHION FRONT

Since Covid-19 swept across Pakistan in February and March and threw that season’s fashion shows into disarray, the fashion industry has been wondering what the future of runways might look like. The pandemic has forced fashion shows to reinvent themselves as digital events. In the empty studio of Karachi, Net Set Studio, Catwalk Cares Virtual Fashion Show Season 2 kicked off where the models took to the runway to present creations by eminent designers. All the accoutrements of such an event were in situ – spotlights beamed overhead and a small group of photographers and media including leading bloggers, ensconced in face masks and gloves, attended the show in different time slots. Likewise, designers and brands along with their models were also assigned separate intervals so as to avoid crowding. But what some might, two months ago, have considered to be the key component of any fashion show, was noticeably missing. An audience. Models presented their elaborate outfits to an all but empty room. The virtual fashion show will air on ARY Zindagi TV worldwide into 3 days format and on ARY Digital for its YouTube transmission.
