REMEMBERING QAVI KHAN

Veteran actor and producer Qavi Khan is no more with us and his departure has left a void in the world of cinema and television that is hard to fill. Paying tribute to the seasoned actor, the Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi organized a condolence reference where his fellow actors and media fraternity gathered and shared their experiences working with the dynamic man. Veteran actors including Mustafa Qureshi, Munwar Saeed, Amjad Shah, Raju Jameel, Shahzad Raza Naqvi, Zeba Shahnaz, Mehmood Mirza, Nadeem Zafar, and Younis Memon were among the attendees. Apart from them, Nadeem Baig, Zeba Muhammad Ali, actor Javed Shaikh, Sangeeta, Syed Noor, and Sultana Siddiqui joined them on the telephone. Senior producer Iqbal Latif performed the duty of moderator of the event. Theatre director Younis Memom while talking about Qavi Khan said he was a thorough gentleman who always did his work with sincerity. He said that he was highly punctual and gave high respect to his fellow workers. Legendary actress Zeba Ali got emotional while talking about her old friend and said that it was hard for her to digest the news of Qavi’s death. She said that she had worked with lots of talented actors but there was nobody like him. The director Syed Noor in a telephonic conversation said that Qavi was a gem for Pakistani cinema. The iconic roles he had played in his long career proved his versatility as a performer. Senior actor Mustafa Qureshi expressed his opinion and said that Qavi was no more with us but his work would live with us forever. Senior actor Munwar Saeed informed the attendees that said he met him for the first time during the shoot of drama serial Mirza Ghalib Bandar Road Per and later he helped him becoming an actor. Renowned Lollywood actor Nadeem Baig said that he had learned a lot from Qavi Khan. Theatre performer Shahzad Raza said he considered Qazi Wajid and Qavi Khan as his role models and no one could take their position in his life. Media mogul Sultana Siddiqui while paying gratitude to the legend said his association with his channel has been long and loyal. The actor had done several plays with Hum Network. She said that our youngsters should learn something from people like Qavi Khan. Raju Jameel said he had given memorable performances and we should respect him for whatever contribution he had made in the world of cinema and television. President of Arts Council Muhammad Ahmad Shah while speaking about Qavi Khan said that he was a very active man. Even at the age of 75, whenever he used to come to the theater, he used to light up the evening with his witty humour and great presence.
