Male celebrities join forces with Shaniera Akram for her Polished Man Campaign

FOR A GOOD CAUSE

One in five children is subjected to sexual violence before the age of 18. This statistic reveals a societal crisis that is more commonplace than we think. Should there be more attention paid to this phenomenon? Why is there so much silence? To break this silence, a campaign by the name of Polished Man Campaign started in 2014 in Australia which aimed at raising awareness by encouraging men to paint one fingernail. By painting one fingernail, they represent the one in five children who experience violence. The Polished Man Campaign spread its wings and flew to Pakistan when Cricket legend Wasim Akram’s wife Shaniera Akram decided to start the campaign by joining forces with Pakistan’s most influential men including Humayun Saeed, Wasim Akram, Mikaal Zulfiqar, Shoaib Malik, Shahveer Jaffrey and many more. According to Shaniera, the idea behind men painting their nails is so they can step outside their comfort zones enough to make the pledge. Shaniera believes that, “If painting a nail got you talking about child abuse, then we must be doing something right!”
