Pakistani women cricketers can now avail 12 months of paid maternity leaves

Much needed!

Women in Pakistan have faced formidable challenges in their efforts to achieve gender equality and address gender-based violence in their country, with particular problems posed by elements among customary norms and practices. Yet throughout the past few years, breakthroughs in pro-women legislation have shown that both the efforts of Pakistan's government, and the advocacy of groups working toward women's empowerment in the country, are taking effect. In one such update of parental policies, it has been decided by the Pakistan Cricket Board that the women cricketers will get a whole year of paid maternity leaves. The PCB’s Parental Support Policy read as, “Women cricketers will be entitled to take up to 12 months of paid maternity leaves.” As for the men cricketers, it stated that, “Under the paternity policy, men cricketers will be entitled to 30 days of fully paid leaves.”
