Angelina Jolie joins Instagram, breaks record

Angelina Jolie has officially joined Instagram. The actress gained 2.1 million new followers in just three hours which beat Jennifer Aniston’s previous record for the quickest growth to a million followers after making her Instagram debut in October 2019. It took Aniston five hours and 16 minutes to hit one million. In her debut post, the actress shared a letter she'd received from a teenage girl in Afghanistan. "Right now, the people of Afghanistan are losing their ability to communicate on social media and to express themselves freely," she wrote to her followers. "So, I've come on Instagram to share their stories and the voices of those across the globe, fighting for their basic human rights." In the caption, Jolie, who has served as Special Envoy for the UN High Commissioner for Refugees since her appointment in 2012, recalled taking a trip to the border of Afghanistan. She then called for her followers to join. In her bio, Jolie linked to a page on the UNHCR's website, in which the UN Refugee Agency called for support of the humanitarian response. "I will continue to look for ways to help. And I hope you'll join me."
