When we last left Joe Goldberg (Penn Badgley) and his new love Love (Victoria Pedretti), they were trying to leave their bloody past behind in suburban bliss (with a baby on the way!). With a few murders under their collective belts and more dark secrets than we can possibly list here, the duo’s dream of a fresh start might seem impossible, but they’re determined to make it work. It’s been a while, but Joe (Penn Badgley) and Love (Victoria Pedretti) are back and… well… certainly not better than ever. Since bringing baby Henry into the world and moving to the suburbs, the couple has struggled to connect, snapping at each other due to lack of sleep and everything else that comes with a new baby and a new life. While Joe struggles to connect with Henry and Love’s efforts to fit in with the town’s queen bees largely fail, the couple is somewhat miserable in their lives. Suburban bliss is not quite they imagined it would be. Despite having found his equal in Love, Joe seems repulsed by her dark past and is convinced he must keep searching for “the one” – and perhaps he’s found her in his neighbour Natalie (Michaela McManus). Joe decides to straight things up with Love again and he then finally starts to bond with Henry, and Love decides to pursue her dream of opening a bakery in town. This bliss can’t last forever, though, and when Love discovers that not all is as it seems with Joe, she does what she does best: commit a crime of passion. Season three only continues leaning into some of the ridiculous things that make You fun to watch and deftly weaving in fascinating gender dynamics and social commentary.
