Mellow & Mysterious

Find fresh new alternatives to a classic festive look for an unconventional sartorial statement

With the festive season afoot, it’s that time of the year where we start reaching for our favourite traditional ensembles. From classic kurtas in modern silhouettes, and pretty colours to traditional jewellery pieces and footwear that complements the look, the growing number of options may at times leave us feeling overwhelmed. But with the reemergence fashion having a moment in 2021, it's only fair we extend its over the top sentiment into our festive wardrobes. After giving the festive season a miss in 2020, and all set to get back to small gatherings this year, it's time we give our traditional classics a much needed upgrade. This year, the colours are bold, the fabrics are plush, and the vibes are blingy. So, to make a strong sartorial statement when you step out, here are some of the festive trends you should be au courant with.

This festive season we’ll be seeing an increase in demand for classic zardozi in particular and different forms of heavy embroideries in general. This season, designers are using heavy embellishments with various shaped stones and pearls. More on the lines of exaggerated embroidery. The focus this year is creating something heavy yet elegant as many girls are picking heavy embroideries and experimenting with exaggerated embellishments.

Embellished and embroidered pieces of mesh are all the rage this season. Pretty 3D flowers, pearls, beads and stones on net fabrics are stars of the season. Although, these jewelled net fabrics were once only classified as bridal couture materials. Now, attention to detail is getting more important, and embellished net surely represents any fancy occasion, something that is eye-catching and feminine.

This soft textured net material when beautifully complemented with sparkling details, with a touch of appliquéd work, makes this beautiful fabric even more attention grabbing. And fascinatingly, these embellished designs offer versatile options for your outfit styles, which is probably why net fabrics are proving to be very popular.

And as every IT girl knows that no festive outfit is complete without pretty jewellery pieces, traditional chokers complementing your outfit are a must have piece. Casual chokers have been a much loved accessory, adding sass to street style since early 2000s. This year, the choker trend underwent a fashionable transformation making their way in the traditional game. Either wear them solo or pair them with chunky jhumkas or even tikas. No matter how you choose to wear them, these close-fitting necklaces have the potential of giving a striking definition to any outfit. Well that’s not it, this gorgeous piece of accessory also gives a well-sculpted look to the neck.

Apart from jewellery, the kind of footwear you pair your outfit with is also super important to get your look right. You can either opt for matching or contrasting block heels, as they have risen in fame in the fashion world because of their walkability and versatility, or stiletto heels, one of the most classic and popular heel styles that work well with almost every kind of outfit.
