Few artists can be instantly recognised by their beauty look. There's Bowie's lightning stripe, Amy Winehouse's jumbo liner, Ariana's ponytail and Cher's waist-length raven black hair. But if we were to name a beauty look that's quite as iconic as Adele, it would have to be her signature winged liner.

The retro '60s liner and coquettish dolly lashes are a look that the star has made her trademark since her debut in 2007 with her album 19 and her smash hit, Hometown Glory. And, 14 years later, the flick may have got a little slicker and more elongated, but she remains just as committed.

After a five-year hiatus, Adele re-emerged with a 20-second clip on Instagram, teasing a pretty piano riff and those famously winged almond eyes. There could be no doubt as to who both belonged to.

And to cement her return, the multi-Grammy award winner took to the cover of Vogue, hailing her new album, 30, and some serious liner action.

It's undeniable. No-one does liner quite like Adele. And, within one hour of the release of trailer for her newest hit, Easy On Me, searches for “Adele Makeup” explode by 9,900 per cent. Evidently, we all want in on the action.

Although, she’s recently been in the news for her 'transformation', we've always loved her looks! Every makeup look that she serves turns into major inspiration for beauty junkies, so this time, we thought of decoding her classic makeup look for all her (and makeup) fans. Read on to recreate Adele’s signature glam:

Ace your base

Your base is the foundation of your makeup look and any compromise here is an absolute no-no. Prep your skin well with a hydrating yet mattifying moisturiser to cut out any shine on the face. Since her base is super matte, we too will stick to a matte foundation to add coverage sans dewiness to the face. Make sure to use a mattifying primer if you must. Next, conceal the problem areas with a brightening and matte concealer and set your face with powder. Remember, no dewiness.

Add character and colour

A blank visage full of foundation equals an empty canvas. Boring, right? Add the magic of bronzer and blush to your face to give it a put-together look. It’s essential to enhance the features of your face and complement the eye makeup. A rosy pink matte blush would do the deal, while a soft matte bronzer is perfect. Place your bronzer on the cheekbones and layer the blush just above it. Don’t go for that ‘blush all over cheeks and nose’ look here, skip it.

Eyes see you

Her eyes are the standout feature of her look and we must try to recreate the same. With a matte dark brown eyeshadow on her crease, she places a soft matte cream eyeshadow on the lids that matches her skin tone. After achieving this perfect contrast (without harsh or unblended edges), she adds a neat and precise wing eyeliner that imitates the shape of her almond eyes. To get that perfect Adele liner, dip an angled brush into a rich black gel liner like the M.A.C Pro Longwear Fluidline Eyeliner Gel in Blacktrack and trace along the upper lash line. Create sharp points near the tear ducts and dramatic wings angled towards the ends of your brows. Connect the flick of your liner to the outer edge of your lower lash line. Next, apply a couple coats of your favourite mascara and stick on a pair of false eyelashes that accentuate the cat-eye shape like Huda Beauty’s Kahlana Lash. It looks stunning, to be honest. Filled in brows and fluttery lashes complete the eye makeup.

Nude lips for the win

She sticks to a nude brown matte lip that looks oh-so-sultry when paired with the rest of her makeup. Use a matte brown nude lip liner to outline and fill in the lips. Next, glide on your favourite nude matte lippie and call it a day. Don’t miss priming your lips with a primer or matte balm.

Set it well

It’s important to set your entire makeup with a spray and lock it in with a matte powder. And voila, you’re ready with your Adele-inspired look!
