PEMRA directs TV channels to refrain from displaying scenes of PDA

Censorship continues

As the film and drama makers continue to work on the new set of guidelines to be followed while shooting films and shows in the post Covid-19 world, there are challenges that need to be addressed sooner than later. One of the major concerns in front of the directors is to think of alternative ways to shoot scenes of intimacy between the actors. Recently, the Pakistan Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) issued a notice to all TV channels, directing them to avoid displaying “caress/hug scenes in dramas”. According to the notice, physical intimacy has to be avoided as “dramas are not depicting true picture of Pakistani society. Hugs/caress scenes, extramarital relations, vulgar/bold dressing, bed scenes and intimacy of married couples are being glamourised in utter disregard to Islamic teachings and the culture of Pakistani society.” The notice read as, “All Satellite TV channels are hereby directed to refrain from airing caress/hug scenes in dramas and properly review the content of the dramas through In-House Monitoring Committee and edit/amend the same by giving due consideration to above reservations and apprehensions of the viewers.” Looks like directors will now have to make use of the best of technology to depict intimacy without letting the actors actually shoot such scenes.
