When we last saw the Byrde family at the end of Ozark: Season 3, they were shocked by the execution of someone who seemed untouchable. In the seven-episode first part of Ozark: Season 4, Marty and Wendy find themselves in even deeper with Navarro and the cartel, trying their best to keep up appearances and keep their children safe. As the stakes get higher and some new faces make their jobs a little more difficult, the couple must go to even more extreme lengths than we’ve ever seen from them. Following the shocking execution of Helen mere inches from the both of them, Marty (Jason Bateman) and Wendy (Laura Linney) try to clean themselves up in the bathroom at Navarro’s estate. At Omar’s (Felix Solis) party, they meet his nephew Javi (Alfonso Herrera), who Omar later warns the couple is hungry for power and will likely kill Omar if given the chance. They warn them to stop their drug production, but Darlene brushes them off. When Ruth discovers Helen’s been murdered, however, her confidence in her new enterprises is shaken. In the first installment of Ozark’s final season, we’re quickly reminded why we’ve been on this journey for so long. We’ve watched Marty and Wendy evolve from naive bystanders to ruthless criminals, their children grow up way faster than any kid. It’s a tough feat, but this new season ramps things up to increasingly compelling places, easily making Ozark as one of the best dramas on television.
