Oppo’s Find X5 Pro flagship phone is now finally official

After extensive leaks, Oppo has officially announced the Find X5 Pro, its flagship phone for 2022. It’s a fairly iterative follow-up to last year’s Find X3 Pro. The Find X5 Pro’s design plays off the curved uni-body approach of the X3 Pro. This time around the back panel is ceramic. The ring light-equipped microscope camera is no more, and Oppo is settling for the same 50-megapixel IMX766 sensors in its primary and ultra wide cameras, as well as a 13-megapixel telephoto. While the main 50-megapixel camera sensor is the same, the lens in front of it is slightly faster at f/1.7, and Oppo says it now uses more glass than the previous all-plastic optics. The lens also now has five-axis stabilisation. There’s a 6.7-inch 1440p 120Hz OLED display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor, a 5,000mAh battery, 80W fast charging, 50W wireless charging, IP68 water and dust resistance, 256GB of storage, and 12GB of RAM. Oppo is also releasing a non-Pro version of the Find X5 where the main differences are a Snapdragon 888, 8GB of RAM, and a smaller 6.5-inch 1080p OLED screen.

Acer’s Swift 5 has finally come out with a 16:10 display screen

Acer has announced updates to its Swift consumer line. The big news is that the Swift 5, its consumer flagship, has finally moved from a 16:9 aspect ratio screen to the taller and roomier 16:10. It’s the latest of many premium flagship products to take this jump. Apart from the aspect ratio, the new 14-inch Swift 5 looks fairly similar to the previous Swift 5 models. It’s gotten a bit heavier (2.65 pounds). It now comes with a 2560 x 1600 display, whereas last year’s model was only available in 1920 x 1080. Inside, the Swift has been bumped to Intel’s 12th Gen Core processors. It can be configured with up to 16GB of RAM and 2TB of storage. That’s a high amount for such a small device – last year’s model maxed out at 1TB. This Swift also has a fingerprint sensor and an FHD webcam, which Acer says will leverage “Temporal Noise Reduction” technology. The new Swift 5 will be available in North America in June, starting at $1,499, which is a bit more expensive than last year’s base configuration.
