Maira Khan – In elevated classics

The pandemic may have dulled the festive season’s sparkle but certainly not our spirit. As we prep again for a pared-down festive season, a classic A-line suit seems like the perfect choice of outfit in ethnic wear. Fuss-free and stylish, this silhouette is best suited for almost any gathering. And of course, there’s no arguing about the versatility of the suit – from shalwars to churidaars to palazzos, there’s something for every preference, personality, and body type.

Clearly, 2021 was the year of loungewear – a trend that’s not going anywhere soon. And ethnic suits too, seemed to have, well, followed suit. But the anti-fit suits are a hot trend right now. Relaxed fit silhouettes paired with churidaars or palazzos are in vogue this season and seasons to come. In terms of fabrics, handloom fabrics – case in point: mesh and chunri – have made a strong comeback and will be the focus this festive season.

That said, our A-listers may love dramatic trains and larger-than-life silhouettes, but when it comes to festive fashion, our best dressed names remain partial to the charms of a well-embellished ethnic suit. Flip through the pages of festive wear in history and you’ll find that this timeless classic has played a starring role in the wardrobes of almost all of our fashionistas.

Maira Khan here too emulates the trend and looks all ready for the festive celebrations in chic chunri prints and embroidered mesh, both embellished with sequins and lacework.

Speaking of chunri, with wedding season soon drawing to a close, it’s time to turn a new leaf and what better way to ring in the new season than with a new trend. While chunri might not be new, this fabric trend has stood the test of time. Only limited to dupattas back then, chunri’s vibrant hues have now also taken over to kurtas, lehengas, sarees and much more.

As for embroidered mesh, this lightweight and alluring fabric looks fête-ready. Embellished mesh is all the rage this season. Pretty 3D flowers, pearls, sequins and stones on net fabrics are stars of the season. Although these jewelled net fabrics were once only classified as bridal couture materials. Now, attention to detail is getting more important, and embellished net surely represents any fancy occasion, something that is eye-catching and feminine.
