Instagram is now letting all users tag products in their posts

Instagram is opening its product tagging feature to all users in the US, which means you no longer need a business or creator account to tag products in your posts. The feature will start rolling out to everyone “over the next few months.” Instagram has transformed into an app where just about everything can be shopped. The platform first rolled out product tagging in 2016 as its initial push into e-commerce, later supporting product tags in video posts and stories (and, eventually, Reels). As Instagram’s shopping experience continued to evolve, the platform added a native checkout feature that lets you buy products directly from tags and also gave creators the ability to tag products in their posts. Meta spokesperson Anne Yeh told that influencers won’t receive a kickback from any purchases made through product tags, but the platform is currently testing an affiliate program with select creators that lets them earn a commission through tagged products. Instagram has an impressive number of users tagging products in their posts, with 1.6 million people tagging at least one product per week. Expanding the feature to its entire userbase – it will help expand the visibility of products through organic, non-sponsored posts that could open an entirely new market of users wanting to share the products they use with friends and family on the app.

WhatsApp starts rolling out emoji reactions in Android beta

WhatsApp, the Meta-owned encrypted messaging service that boasts over two billion users worldwide, is adding emoji reactions in beta on Android. WABetaInfo, a reliable source of upcoming WhatsApp features, reports that emoji reactions have started appearing in beta version 2.22.8.3 of the service’s Android app, giving users a quick and easy way to respond to incoming messages. With a long-press of a received message, the feature lets users react with one of six emoji. WhatsApp appears to be rolling out the feature on Android in phases, and we were unable to get it to appear ourselves. Alongside its appearance on Android, there are signs that emoji reactions are also on the way for the service’s iOS and desktop applications. As of early January WhatsApp’s beta app on iOS has had a settings toggle to control “Reaction Notifications,” and a similar setting appeared in the beta version of the desktop app earlier this month. Emoji reactions have become commonplace across other messaging services like iMessage, Facebook Messenger, Google’s Messages app, and even Twitter DMs.
