APPLE’S LATEST STUDIO DISPLAY UPDATE FIXES AN AUDIO PROBLEM

Apple has released a new software update for the Studio Display following reports of audio problems like sound dropouts and choppy playback. The new update, which Apple says only “resolves an audio issue”, is a revised version of update 15.5, and to download and install it, your Mac will need to be on macOS Monterey 12.4 or later. MacRumors reported on a memo indicating that Apple was aware something was going on. In the memo, Apple apparently said that the audio problems were not due to the Studio Display’s hardware, and to fix the issues, the company recommended that customers unplug the display from power, disconnect any accessories or devices, and then plug it back in after waiting 10 seconds. If you’re still running into trouble, you can always try unplugging the display like Apple recommended – even though that’s a huge hassle. These audio issues aren’t the only problems that have affected Apple’s $1,599 Studio Display. The display’s webcam has also been heavily criticised, and while Apple has released a fix intended to make things better, it’s still not that good.

THE ROTOM PHONE IS FINALLY GETTING A SECOND CAMERA

The Rotom Phone is getting a big upgrade. Following its introduction in the Galar region three years ago, the updated version of the smartphone-that’s-inhabited-by-a-Pokémon is finally making the jump from one back camera to two. The handset will soon be available in the new Paldea region as well. It’s difficult to tell exactly what kind the second lens is for – all we can really see is that the main lens remains blue while the new second lens is black. Beyond that, it seems like this new Rotom Phone is a largely iterative upgrade from the previous one. One new feature is a mysterious glowing blue ring in the middle of the device. The ring is set pretty much exactly where you’d expect a wireless charging coil to be, after all. Disappointingly, the large points on the top and bottom of the Rotom Phone have stuck around for this next generation. That means it’s probably still not comfortable to slip into your pocket. No word on 5G support, which could make it easier to stay in touch with your friends while you’re travelling across Paldea.
