I Just Killed My Dad is a three-part docuseries, which revolves around a teenager who killed his father at their Baton Rouge home in June of 2019. At first, the case is presented as a straightforward tragedy of a teenage son, who was withdrawn and antisocial, killing the father who gave him everything. Templet called 911 and told the dispatcher, “I just killed my dad,” and didn’t resist when he was arrested. Then again, he didn’t think that he was being brought up on any charges. Anthony Templet claims he shot his father to protect his life. But, through interviews with his stepmother, police, prosecutors and journalists, along with interrogation footage shows that Anthony was unusually flat and unemotional when describing the incident. He also for some reason doesn’t quite remember his home address. His boss at a local nursery took a liking to Anthony, despite the fact that the teen was very withdrawn and didn’t know what a “high five” was, and with the help of a genealogy investigator, finds out that Burt abducted his son from his mother in 2007, when Anthony was five, and that they’ve been living in hiding in Louisiana ever since. One of the things that struck us about I Just Killed My Dad is that it covers a relatively recent case that didn’t get a ton of news coverage outside of where the murder took place.
