GOOGLE BRINGS THE MATERIAL YOU-STYLE COLOUR THEMES TO DESKTOP CHROME

The latest Canary build of Google Chrome includes a neat feature that automatically picks a colour scheme for the browser based on the wallpaper shown when you open a new tab. The feature was first spotted over on Reddit, who shows how changing the new tab wallpaper automatically adjusts the colour scheme of the browser’s address bar and interface. It’s previously been possible to manually change Chrome’s colour scheme to one of your choosing, but this simplifies the process. According to Google’s software, the feature “enables setting theme colour based on background image colour when background image is changed in New Tab Page,” and is available on Mac, Windows, and Linux, as well as Google’s own ChromeOS and Fuchsia operating systems. It’s a similar feature to Android’s Material You, which adjusts the operating system’s colour scheme based on what it detects in your home screen wallpaper. It debuted on Android 12 last year, was expanded upon in this year’s Android 13 update, and Google has also rolled out the theming option to several of its Android apps.
