Pakistani Stars at Filmfare Achievers Night: What went right and what didn’t?

It was a dazzling night in Dubai when Bollywood stars arrived at the World Trade Centre for the Filmfare Middle East Achievers Night 2022 (FFME 2022) – and what made it extra special for Pakistanis was the presence of our superstars, Sajal Aly, Humayun Saeed and Fahad Mustafa who were awarded for their extraordinary contributions to Pakistan’s entertainment world.

Our gorgeous diva Sajal Aly was awarded the Most Popular Face of Pakistani Cinema, Humayun Saeed got the trophy for being the Trendsetter of Pakistani Cinema and Fahad Mustafa won an award for the promising star of Pakistan.

We all were happy seeing our superstar representing the nation on the international platform, clicking selfies with Bollywood stars, and showing gratitude towards them. Here we list down the key moments of event – some of them made us proud while there were a few that we didn’t like.

Jhanvi Kapoor’s warm attitude toward Sajal Aly

We all are aware of Sajal association with Kapoor’s family. She played Sridevi’s daughter in Boney Kapoor’s home production, Mom. Since then Sajal has had a special place in all of Kapoor’s clan. At the award show when Mili star Jhanvi Kapoor saw Sajal after a long time, she couldn’t keep her excitement down and rushed to greet her. We loved the warm hug the Indian star gave to Sajal. In her award acceptance speech, Jahnvi shared, "I'm meeting Sajal after so long and I'm so happy to be here so thank you for this lovely evening."

Humayun Saeed’s cute banter with Bharti Singh

We loved how poised and dignified attitude Saeed maintained throughout the event. Being well aware of his superstar stature he greeted his Indian counterpart with grace – and we just loved it. The Indian anchor while introducing Humayun Saeed mentioned his recent hit serial, Meray Pass Tum Ho, and how the character of Danish was close to their hearts.

The laughter queen Bharti Singh asked Humayun why he made London Nahi Jaunga. "Sir I looked you up and came across this film of yours. Why did you not want to go to London? Did you not get a visa or did you not get along with Rakhi?" quipped Bharti. "I had made a film called Punjab Nahi Jaungi. It became successful and I became greedy. So I decided to make another film called London Nahi Jaunga," Humayun replied.

Sajal praised Humayun Saeed for helping her venture to act

We loved how our stars supported each other on the international platform. Taking advantage of the situation, Sajal Aly thanked Humayun Saeed for supporting her through her initial days in the industry. She said, “Thanks a lot Humayun Saeed for allowing me to venture into acting and believing in me.”

Fahad Mustafa’s Govinda moment didn’t go well

It was the first time that Jeeto Pakistan star attended an International event and he got a little over the board in showing his excitement for the show. His unprepared speech once again laid emphasis that our stars need proper training and grooming before making a public appearance on the international level.

The moment he entered the hall he went to the Bollywood stars to meet them and while crossing Govinda he touched his feet to show his gratitude towards them. It was a nice gesture but not-needed at that time. Later in his award acceptance speech he cashed more on his fan boy moment and talked more about Govinda and Ranveer Singh rather than wisely using the platform to highlight the tremendous growth of Pakistani industry.

Addressing the legendary Bollywood actor, Fahad shared, "Sir, we are your fans. And I started acting because of you. Aur hume Pakistan mein aesa lagta tha ki jo bhi acting karni hai woh aapke jaese karni hai. Phir Ranveer agaye, phir (Sir, we are your fans. We think in Pakistan that whatever acting has to be done, should be done like yours). Then Ranveer (Singh) came, and then.. (laughing)." This whole scenario looked little weird and we wished it couldn’t happen. •
