A woman from Jordan is under investigation for allegedly staging her own funeral and death using a fake corpse in an effort to defraud insurance companies out of $2 million. According to authorities, the woman obtained life insurance policies from three different insurers while working with a number of accomplices, according to Sky News Arabia. In October 2022, word of her passing spread, and a funeral and memorial service were held. Her death was announced in October 2022, and a funeral and memorial event took place. According to a Jordanian security officer, lawyers contacted the insurance firms to request the $2 million in reimbursements on the policies. According to media sources, when the claimants failed to present copies of legitimate medical reports, the companies grew suspicious and notified the authorities. The "corpse" was excavated as part of the investigation and shown to be a plastic doll encased in a white shroud. The Jordan Insurance Federation informed all insurers of the incident and urged them to work with law enforcement and other organisations to help thwart such fraud schemes in the future and look into any prior suspicious situations.
