A couple from Michigan, US were simply ecstatic when their second child, a baby girl arrived in the family in March this year after a 138-year hiatus on girls. According to Carolyn and Andrew Clark's family records, there haven't been any female babies in the family since 1885, according to People. When Carolyn, the baby's mother, learned from her husband over ten years ago that no girls had been born in the family since 1885, she was astounded. "What do you mean?" she recalls asking Andrew after they began dating more than a decade ago, pointing out that "it's a 50-50 chance" with each baby born. "He goes, 'No, legitimately, we have not had a girl in our direct line in over 100 years." Carolyn during an interview to WZZM 13 told that they already had a 4-year-old son named Cameron, when they began trying for another child in the hope for a girl. The couple had experienced two miscarriages before Audrey's arrival but they remained hopeful of a healthy pregnancy, Carolyn added.

At a gender reveal party in September, the Clarks and their family got to know that a girl was on the way. Everyone was served special cookies that had been baked with either pink or blue frosting. After a countdown, Andrew, Carolyn and their guests took a bite at the same time and saw pink inside the cookies. "Everyone was just screaming and jumping in in disbelief," Carolyn told WZZM 13. And since there was no girl born in the family for such a long time, Carolyn and Andrew found it hard to come up with a name for the baby.
