When she inquired about references for her role, she was directed to Peaky Blinders, where she found nuances, particularly in Murphy's character's cold gaze, that resonated with Mallikajaan's persona.

Originally envisioned as a film with actors Rekha, Kareena Kapoor, and Rani Mukerji, Bhansali adapted the project into an 8-episodic series.
