Manisha Koirala channels Cillian Murphy for her role

Manisha Koirala's stellar performance in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's latest masterpiece, Heeramandi, has captivated audiences worldwide. Portraying the complex character of Mallikajaan, the matriarch courtesan of Shahi Mahal, Koirala revealed that she found inspiration in Cillian Murphy's portrayal in Peaky Blinders.

In a recent interview, Koirala shared her process of bringing realism to her character, emphasising the importance of not confining it to a predetermined mold. When she inquired about references for her role, she was directed to Peaky Blinders, where she found nuances, particularly in Murphy's character's cold gaze, that resonated with Mallikajaan's persona.

Koirala's character is depicted as cunning, poisonous, and cold, traits she masterfully embodies with depth and intensity. Originally envisioned as a film with actors Rekha, Kareena Kapoor, and Rani Mukerji, Bhansali adapted the project into an 8-episodic series. The visionary director behind Heeramandi, expressed his satisfaction in a recent interview with the casting choices, including Koirala's transformative performance.
