AR Rahman reveals how his mother helped him during his struggling days

AR Rahman is a winner of six National Film Awards, two Academy Awards, two Grammy Awards, a BAFTA Award and a Golden Globe Award. Well, he also has many Filmfare trophies as well. He is also honoured with the Padma Bhushan, India's third-highest civilian award.

Recently, he was seen speaking to Imtiaz Ali on an OTT platform about his music for Amar Singh Chamkila and his musical journey in the entertainment industry. AR Rahman got emotional and revealed how his mother is the biggest reason why he stepped into the world of music and could set up his own studio. He said that he never went to college and felt that he was missing out on certain things and hence, started spending time with people in their 40s and 50s when he was just 12 years old.

Songs became his new favourite thing. The music director also spoke about how he had no money when he wanted to start his studio and could not buy any equipment. However, his mother sold her jewellery to buy him his first recorder.
